{"id":9390,"date":"2020-10-29T09:00:10","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T09:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/kearsney-easter-rugby-festival-teams-announced-for-centenary\/"},"modified":"2020-10-29T09:00:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T09:00:10","slug":"kearsney-easter-rugby-festival-teams-announced-for-centenary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=9390","title":{"rendered":"Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival teams announced for centenary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-9389\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/KERFLogo2021.jpg\" alt=\"KERFLogo2021\" width=\"380\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/KERFLogo2021.jpg 933w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/KERFLogo2021-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/KERFLogo2021-768x351.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/>The 2021 <strong>Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival<\/strong> takes place in Kearsney\u2019s centenary year and schools with which Kearsney College has enjoyed long relationships and friendly rivalries over many decades have been invited to this special edition of the festival.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Participating schools and the fixtures were announced today, with three schools invited for the first time to celebrate the milestone \u2013 KwaZulu-Natal Midlands schools <strong>Michaelhouse<\/strong> and <strong>Hilton College<\/strong> and fellow Methodist school <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong> from Makhanda (Grahamstown).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Together with Kearsney\u2019s traditional KZN rivals Maritzburg College and Glenwood High School, they will be joined by the perennially strong Eastern Cape outfits of <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> (East London), <strong>Dale College<\/strong> (King Williams Town), and Ho\u00ebrskool <strong>Framesby<\/strong> (Port Elizabeth), as well as Ho\u00ebrskool Noord-Kaap (Kimberley), <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Dr. EG Jansen<\/strong> (Boksburg in Gauteng) and Pretoria Boys High.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The five KZN teams are expected to add a great sense of local celebration to the festival, whilst also increasing the number of participating high schools to 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Traditionally the three play days of the festival, held over the Easter long weekend, attract strong teams from across the country, offering an exciting mix of playing styles &#8211; and 2021 promises to be no different.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Selborne College<\/strong> will undoubtedly play the special brand of rugby which they have displayed each year since the inaugural 2008 edition of Kearsney\u2019s festival. Regular participants Glenwood and EG Jansen have both played at 10 previous festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hosts Kearsney will open the festival playing against the habitually strong <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Noord-Kaap<\/strong>. The lunchtime game between Ho\u00ebrskool Framesby and Dr. EG Jansen should provide a tough tussle, together with the later game between Dale and local newcomers Hilton.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hilton will play festival regulars <strong>Dr. EG Jansen<\/strong> on the second day, with Glenwood facing Selborne College on day two and Ho\u00ebrskool Framesby on the third day, who in turn will play Maritzburg College in their second clash. Selborne, up against Glenwood on day two, promises to be a thrilling game and is sure to attract much crowd interest. The final game of the festival will see Kearsney play against the Eastern Cape\u2019s Kingswood College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Three primary school teams, which will play the <strong>KZN Ibutho-Mark Godfrey<\/strong> u13 development team as the curtain-raiser each day, are still to be confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kearsney College headmaster <strong>Elwyn van den Aardweg<\/strong> said: \u201cWe are delighted that schools, both independent and state, drawn from across the country, have accepted the invitation to celebrate Kearsney\u2019s centenary year with us at this festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe different styles of play that characterise each participating school will ensure that every fixture is set up to produce thrilling contests in the finest traditions of schoolboy rugby.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Considered to be one of the most prestigious and well-organised schools\u2019 rugby festivals in South Africa, played in the most beautiful environment, the festival sees teams travel with families and supporters to enjoy top schoolboy rugby in a family-friendly festival atmosphere on Kearsney\u2019s exquisite campus, whilst enjoying the province\u2019s glorious Easter weather.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This year\u2019s festival was cancelled three weeks before kick-off, due to the country\u2019s unfolding coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Preparations are now well underway to ensure the year-long programme marking Kearsney\u2019s Centenary is commemorated in style.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Special events include a 24-hour inter-house sports challenge, a relay marathon reading of the New Testament in the Kearsney Chapel, an outdoor musical proms event featuring old boy musicians and performers, a Centenary Ball, with the year\u2019s celebrations culminating in a 140km Kearsney Epic, a relay run from the chapel at Kearsney College in Botha\u2019s Hill to the chapel at Old Kearsney, near Stanger on the KZN North Coast, where the College started in 1921.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Fixtures for the Kearsney College Easter Rugby Festival of 2021:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Day 1 &#8211;
