Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> made a strong start to their Belgotex Sport Girls Hockey Challenge<\/strong> title defence with a pair of wins on Friday, the opening day of the tournament, in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

St Mary’s DSG Kloof<\/strong>, Waterkloof<\/strong>, and Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> also collected maximum points.<\/p>\n

Alanda Rademeyer<\/strong> began her campaign with a bang, bagging a four-goal haul in Paarl Gim’s 5-1 win over Durbanville<\/strong>. Anya Swanepoel<\/strong> scored the fifth goal, while Zieke Rossouw <\/strong>claimed a consolation goal for Durbanville.<\/p>\n

Rademeyer carried her outstanding form into her side’s second match, scoring a brace to help Gimmies<\/strong><\/em> to a 3-1 win over St Cyprian’s<\/strong>. Imke Koegelenberg<\/strong> scored Gim’s third, while Chelsea McGregor<\/strong> found the back of the net for St Cyprian’s. Those back-to-back victories took Paarl Gim to the top of Pool A.<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Mary’s DSG Kloof fired five unanswered goals past Springfield<\/strong> Convent<\/strong> School<\/strong> and Garsfontein<\/strong> to claim six points and a place at the summit of Pool D.<\/p>\n

Jamie da Silva<\/strong>, Olivia Lord<\/strong>, and Tayte Stewart<\/strong> found the back of the net in the KZN school’s 3-0 win over Springfield.\u00a0Stewart was on the scoresheet again in her side’s 2-0 win over Garsfontein, while Georgia Short<\/strong> also netted.<\/p>\n

Lenique Vogel<\/strong> led the charge in Waterkloof’s march to the top of Pool E<\/strong>. She and Mila Rodenburg<\/strong> found the back of the net in Waterkloof’s 2-0 win over DF Akademie<\/strong>. Vogel, Eliane Haycock<\/strong>, and Renske Smit<\/strong> were on target for Klofies <\/strong><\/em>in their 3-1 win over Parel Vallei<\/strong> (PV), while Elrie Pienaar<\/strong> replied for PV.<\/p>\n

Emma Hibbert<\/strong>‘s goal-scoring skills were on display as Reddam House Constantia made an impressive start in Pool H. She scored a hat-trick to spirit Reddam to a 4-0 win over St Mary’s Waverley<\/strong>, with Kayla Brown<\/strong> also getting onto the score sheet. Hibbert, then, scored the match-winner in a 1-0 win over St Anne’s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

DSG Makhanda<\/strong> won one and drew one to claim top spot in Pool B. In their first outing of the day, Emma Watson <\/strong>scored in a 1-1 draw with St John’s DSG<\/strong>, with Annabelle Balmer<\/strong> replying for the Pietermaitzburg school. Lucy Holderness<\/strong> led the way in DSG Makhanda’s comfortable 4-0 win over Rustenburg Girls’ High<\/strong>, scoring a hat-trick, with Emma Watson adding to her tally with another goal.<\/p>\n

Collegiate<\/strong> and Stellenberg<\/strong> provided one of the most tightly contested matches of day one, with neither team scoring in a goalless draw. College, though, rocketed to the top of Pool C with an emphatic 6-1 defeat of St Andrew’s School for Girls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kate Brennan<\/strong> and Kerrin Gillies<\/strong> each scored a brace, while Lauren Duckworth<\/strong> and Nolitha Makasana<\/strong> slotted the other two. Erica Broskie<\/strong> was on target for St Andrew’s.<\/p>\n

Affies Meisies<\/strong> worked their way to the top in Pool F via a win and a draw. They edged out Durban Girls’ College<\/strong> 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Doxa Uys<\/strong>, and then shared the points with Fairmont<\/strong> after a 1-1 draw. Lisa Kleu<\/strong> scored for Affies, while Camryn Corner<\/strong> was on target for Fairmont.<\/p>\n

The Pool G leaders, Herschel<\/strong>, began their campaign with a win and a draw. They shared a six-goal thriller with Pearson,<\/strong> with Sarah Ashbolt<\/strong> striking twice for Herschel and Heather Kane<\/strong> adding the third. Hanna Potgieter<\/strong>, Hannah du Plooy<\/strong>, and Lisa de Villiers<\/strong> scored for Pearson.<\/p>\n

In their opener, Herschel bounded to a comfortable 6-1 win over York<\/strong>, behind Emily Dickinson<\/strong>‘s brace and further goals from Anna Sherren<\/strong>, Katherine Featherstone<\/strong>, Sophie Lashbrooke<\/strong>, and Sophie Luger<\/strong>. Keira Harding<\/strong> responded for York.<\/p>\n
