Photo: ES Media.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> made a strong start to their <strong>Belgotex Sport Girls Hockey Challenge<\/strong> title defence with a pair of wins on Friday, the opening day of the tournament, in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Mary&#8217;s DSG Kloof<\/strong>, <strong>Waterkloof<\/strong>, and <strong>Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> also collected maximum points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alanda Rademeyer<\/strong> began her campaign with a bang, bagging a four-goal haul in Paarl Gim&#8217;s 5-1 win over <strong>Durbanville<\/strong>. <strong>Anya Swanepoel<\/strong> scored the fifth goal, while <strong>Zieke Rossouw <\/strong>claimed a consolation goal for Durbanville.<\/p>\n<p>Rademeyer carried her outstanding form into her side&#8217;s second match, scoring a brace to help <em><strong>Gimmies<\/strong><\/em> to a 3-1 win over <strong>St Cyprian&#8217;s<\/strong>. <strong>Imke Koegelenberg<\/strong> scored Gim&#8217;s third, while <strong>Chelsea McGregor<\/strong> found the back of the net for St Cyprian&#8217;s. Those back-to-back victories took Paarl Gim to the top of Pool A<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>St Mary&#8217;s DSG Kloof fired five unanswered goals past <strong>Springfield<\/strong> <strong>Convent<\/strong> <strong>School<\/strong> and <strong>Garsfontein<\/strong> to claim six points and a place at the summit of Pool D.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamie da Silva<\/strong>, <strong>Olivia Lord<\/strong>, and <strong>Tayte Stewart<\/strong> found the back of the net in the KZN school&#8217;s 3-0 win over Springfield.\u00a0Stewart was on the scoresheet again in her side&#8217;s 2-0 win over Garsfontein, while <strong>Georgia Short<\/strong> also netted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lenique Vogel<\/strong> led the charge in Waterkloof&#8217;s march to the top of <strong>Pool E<\/strong>. She and <strong>Mila Rodenburg<\/strong> found the back of the net in Waterkloof&#8217;s 2-0 win over <strong>DF Akademie<\/strong>. Vogel, <strong>Eliane Haycock<\/strong>, and <strong>Renske Smit<\/strong> were on target for <em><strong>Klofies <\/strong><\/em>in their 3-1 win over <strong>Parel Vallei<\/strong> (PV), while <strong>Elrie Pienaar<\/strong> replied for PV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Hibbert<\/strong>&#8216;s goal-scoring skills were on display as Reddam House Constantia made an impressive start in Pool H. She scored a hat-trick to spirit Reddam to a 4-0 win over <strong>St Mary&#8217;s Waverley<\/strong>, with <strong>Kayla Brown<\/strong> also getting onto the score sheet. Hibbert, then, scored the match-winner in a 1-0 win over <strong>St Anne&#8217;s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>DSG Makhanda<\/strong> won one and drew one to claim top spot in Pool B. In their first outing of the day, <strong>Emma Watson <\/strong>scored in a 1-1 draw with <strong>St John&#8217;s DSG<\/strong>, with <strong>Annabelle Balmer<\/strong> replying for the Pietermaitzburg school. <strong>Lucy Holderness<\/strong> led the way in DSG Makhanda&#8217;s comfortable 4-0 win over <strong>Rustenburg Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>, scoring a hat-trick, with Emma Watson adding to her tally with another goal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Collegiate<\/strong> and <strong>Stellenberg<\/strong> provided one of the most tightly contested matches of day one, with neither team scoring in a goalless draw. College, though, rocketed to the top of Pool C with an emphatic 6-1 defeat of <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s School for Girls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kate Brennan<\/strong> and <strong>Kerrin Gillies<\/strong> each scored a brace, while <strong>Lauren Duckworth<\/strong> and <strong>Nolitha Makasana<\/strong> slotted the other two. <strong>Erica Broskie<\/strong> was on target for St Andrew&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Affies Meisies<\/strong> worked their way to the top in Pool F via a win and a draw. They edged out <strong>Durban Girls&#8217; College<\/strong> 1-0, courtesy of a goal from <strong>Doxa Uys<\/strong>, and then shared the points with <strong>Fairmont<\/strong> after a 1-1 draw. <strong>Lisa Kleu<\/strong> scored for Affies, while <strong>Camryn Corner<\/strong> was on target for Fairmont.<\/p>\n<p>The Pool G leaders, <strong>Herschel<\/strong>, began their campaign with a win and a draw.
