Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unpredictability persists in the <strong>Gauteng Development League (GDL)<\/strong>, with traditionally dominant teams, like <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns,<\/strong> slowly gaining momentum, while underdogs, like <strong>Rockefvs,<\/strong> continue to secure key victories early in the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockefvs&#8217; winning streak continued on Saturday with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over <strong>Jomo Cosmos<\/strong>, which meant they maintained their place at the top of the standings for another week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siwelele <\/strong>ceded top spot to Siwelele last weekend and slipped a little further behind Rockefvs when <strong>Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF) <\/strong>held them to a goalless draw on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/rockefvs-aiming-for-a-top-8-spot-says-chairman-mthethwa-dlamini\/\"><strong>Mthethwa Dlamini, the Chairman of Rockefvs, told SuperSport Schools News<\/strong><\/a> that his team is targeting a top-eight finish across all age divisions. Their first team is leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>Since earning promotion to the GDL in November 2024, Rockefvs has shown commendable improvements. They survived a tough first campaign, which often proves to be beyond newly promoted clubs, and now, in the current season, they&#8217;re setting the pace.<\/p>\n<p>In Saturday&#8217;s match against <em><strong>EzeNkosi<\/strong><\/em>, Rockefvs were pushed to their limits, but they, nonetheless, picked up a 3-2 win over the 16th-placed side.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remothabetse Dithathe<\/strong>, assisted by <strong>Phetogo Phetlele<\/strong>, netted the first goal for Rockefvs. Phetlele was also the provider for <strong>Kopano Ubah<\/strong>, who netted their second, and for <strong>Pontsho Makhafula<\/strong>, who scored the winner.<\/p>\n<p>This victory elevated Rockefvs to 22 points. <strong>Joburg City<\/strong>, who had been in second, one point behind the leaders, were beaten 2-1 by the <strong>Africa School of Excellence<\/strong>, whose goals were netted by <strong>Simthembile Khulwane<\/strong> and <strong>Morategi Rashefola<\/strong>, both assisted by <strong>Qiniso Mhlongo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockefvs&#8217; lead at the top is now by three points over Randburg, who rose from fourth to second, following a 2-1 victory over Kathorus Hyper Academy, which improved their points&#8217; total to 19. <strong>Sipho Muntanga<\/strong> and <strong>Oratile Molokoane<\/strong> scored for Randburg, while <strong>Lefa Radekgomo <\/strong>replied for Kathorus.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomers, <strong>Future of Africa<\/strong>, in an encouraging debut season, suffered a setback against Panorama on Saturday, losing 2-4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Mabaso<\/strong> set up <strong>Kayle Thomas <\/strong>and <strong>Noah Booth<\/strong> for Panorama&#8217;s first two goals, while <strong>Mxolisi Ngobese<\/strong> netted their third from the penalty spot after Thomas was fouled in the box. <strong>Marvin Pitiki<\/strong>, with an assist from Thomas, scored the Roodepoort club&#8217;s fourth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rorisang Motaung<\/strong> converted a penalty for Future of Africa, and <strong>Ezieme Ajah<\/strong> added their second.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/mamelodi-sundowns-unseats-highlands-park-as-gdl-champ\/\"><strong>defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong><\/a>, scraped a narrow 1-0 victory over <strong>Prestige Football Development Academy<\/strong>, while the 2025 runner-up, <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong>, secured a 2-1 win over<strong> Seven&#8217;s Academy<\/strong>, thanks to goals from <strong>Hope Sibande<\/strong> and <strong>Tumelo Ijane<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite goals from <strong>Mpilwenhle Mntambo, Qhama Gaji<\/strong>, and <strong>Loyiso Nkala<\/strong>, the <strong>University of Pretoria (Tuks)<\/strong> suffered a 3-5 defeat against <strong>Wits Junior<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday evening, <strong>Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong> closed out week 10 of the GDL with a tight 1-0 win over <strong>Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA)<\/strong> on a blustery day at <strong>Curro Vanderbijlpark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, 9 May<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Panorama 4-2 Future of Africa<br \/>\nRandburg 2-1 Kathorus<br \/>\nRockefvs 3-2 Jomo Cosmos<br \/>\nMamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Prestige<br \/>\nWits Juniors 5-3 Tuks<br \/>\nHighlands Park 2-1 Seven&#8217;s Academy<br \/>\nAfrica School of Excellence 2-1 Joburg City<br \/>\nSiwelele 0-0 PMYF<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, 10 May<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 RESA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unpredictability persists in the Gauteng Development League (GDL), with traditionally dominant teams, like Mamelodi Sundowns, slowly gaining momentum, while underdogs, like Rockefvs, continue to secure key victories early in the season.
