Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Affies1920\">Affies on Facebook<\/a>.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebr Seunskool<\/strong> <strong>(Affies)<\/strong> continued their impressive run by claiming yet another big scalp in the Gauteng region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The boys from Pretoria, led by coach <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jaydon Lincoln<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, stunned <strong>King Edward VII<\/strong> <strong>(KES)<\/strong> 3-2 in Johannesburg on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That victory added another big name to a list of memorable wins for Affies this season, which also includes victories over <strong>Grey College<\/strong>, <strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>, and <strong>Garsfontein<\/strong> in recent weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Affies headed into the game off the back of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/affies-downs-grey-college-menlo-gets-by-waterkloof-in-friday-night-thrillers\/\">a 3-2 win over Grey College<\/a><\/strong>, while KES defeated <strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> 1-0 and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/northwood-and-kes-share-the-spoils-in-see-saw-eight-goal-tussle\/\">drew 4-4 with<\/a> Northwood School <\/strong>in KwaZulu-Natal a week ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">KES, led by coach<strong> Siya Sityana<\/strong>, got off to a dream start and scored two early goals through <strong>Kamohelo Tsoka <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Rofhatutshedzwa Mathabi<\/strong>, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">much to the delight of their home supporters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Affies, like they&#8217;ve done all season, refused to back down, and pulled one back through<strong> Ruahard Nienaber<\/strong> before<strong> Jurgen Schoeman<\/strong> made it 2-2 going into the break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Playing with greater freedom and belief, the visitors upped the ante in the second half and defended extremely well to withstand the KES onslaught.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On attack, they remained dangerous and made it 3-2 with over four minutes remaining in the third chukka through \u2060<strong>Sam Wessels<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">KES had their moments, particularly in the final chukka, but some brave defending from Affies kept them out. <strong>MJ Celliers<\/strong> pulled off a vital goalline save from a shot from Kamohelo Tsoka, and that proved to be pivotal.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96383\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96383\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96383\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/King-Edward-VII-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96383\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KES, despite creating several goal-scoring opportunities, couldn&#8217;t break down the Affies&#8217; defence late in the game. It could&#8217;ve easily gone either way,&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0Jaydon Lincoln<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the Affies&#8217; coach, said after the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;There were a couple of decisions that went against us early on, but the guys stuck together. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We spoke about how good KES were, but we know how good we are when we go behind. I don&#8217;t know what it is about the Affies boys with a never-say-die attitude, but that&#8217;s exactly what it was in this game.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After going down by two goals early on, Affies made some adjustments to their shape and outlet, which paid off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We changed our shape to suit the press that KES have been successful with all season, and that worked out for us,&#8221; Lincoln explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;After making it 2-2, I said to the team the game was ours, and all we needed to do was to occupy the spaces, hold the lead, and defend well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;They showed a lot of fight, and I&#8217;m happy with how we&#8217;ve shown up over the last couple of weeks.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Affies won&#8217;t rest on their laurels with two big clashes remaining against <strong>St Alban&#8217;s College<\/strong> and <strong>Menlopark<\/strong> this term.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96381\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96381\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96381\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_0719-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96381\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saints&#8217; talisman, Jason Joiner, scored one of his side&#8217;s goals in their 3-2 win over Parktown Boys&#8217; High. Photo: <strong>Michelle Bernhardi<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">At <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong>, the home side survived a late scare to beat <strong>Parktown Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> 3-2. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><em><strong>Saints<\/strong><\/em>, who went into the clash after a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/jeppes-aitken-cup-triumph-proves-that-trusting-the-process-works\/\">heartbreaking 1-2 loss to Jeppe High School for Boys in the Aitken Cup final<\/a><\/strong>, scored through <strong>Sebastian Pousson<\/strong>, <strong>Thomas Becker<\/strong> and the reliable <strong>Jason Joiner<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Parktown had an opportunity to level the scores in the dying seconds from a short corner, but an acrobatic save by goalkeeper<strong> Jasbir Naidoo<\/strong> sealed the win for the hosts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I thought we were very good in the first half, moved the ball very well, and manipulated their defensive efforts,&#8221; Saints&#8217; head coach <strong>Pat Owgan<\/strong> said after the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We also had very good pressure on the ball defensively, which was a key factor in our Aitken run. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;In the second half, they changed a few things, and we didn&#8217;t react well.
