  • Diamantveld win against Rooies

    Diamantveld secured thier place in the final of the Shimla-league with a victory of 32-19 over AHS Kroonstad in the semi-final of the competition at Absapark in Kimberley.

    The team of Kimberley scored 22 unanswered points before Rooiskool started to find their feet in the match.

    The winning team’s eightman and SA Academy player Byron Booysen played well. He was suppported well by Hennie Cloete (wing), Japie Naude (flyhalf), Janneman Jordaan (flank) and Wessel Lourens (captain and hooker).

    Wilgerivier High School to face Rotte in semi-final of Irawa-league

    Wilgerivier High School of Frankfort will travel to Kimberley today to face HLNK Jan Kempdorp at Absapark in Kimberley in their semi-final of the Irawa-league of the Kovsie-competition.

    Wilegerivier is unbeaten the last five years in their league and will be a tough nut to crack for the Rotte of Jan Kempdorp.

    Staatspresident Swart High School of Brandfort are the favourites to win their semi-final encounter against Reitz High School in the Irawa-league of the Kovsie-competition. They are undefeated in theri last 35 encounters.

    They will go into today’s match without the services of their flyhalf and captain Jan Frik Ludeke. Rossouw van Staden who ussualy plays flank for the team of Brandfort will fill the big boots of Ludeke for the encounter against Reitz.

    Koffiefontein High won the Free State small school league when they defeated Zastron 34-19 in the final of the competition at Shimlapark in Bloemfontein.

  • Harmony Sportacademy won the Gestetner Challenge

    Harmony Sportacademy won the Gestetner Challenge

    Harmony Sportacademy added yet another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet when they defeated AHS Kroonstad 41-7 in the Gestetner Challenge at the Rooiskool’s field in Kroonstad.

    SA Academy centre, Justin Claassen, once again showed his class in his team’s victory. He scored two tries and also had a hand in winger Ashley Klaassen’s try. The team’s captain and scrumhalf, Boela Abrahams, also scored twice. With one of his tries, he collected the ball at his feat at the halfway line and beat four defenders before scoring.

    Harmony Sportacademy’s forwards were very good in the lineouts and with the mauling from the set piece. While their flanker, Boetie Abrahams gave Rooiskool some trouble at the breakdowns.

    Landboudal learn THS Kimberley a lesson or two

    Landboudal learned Kimberley THS a rugby lesson when they defeated the by 58-3 in their friendly match at Absa-park in Kimberley in the main curtain raiser for the Vodacom Cup clash between Griquas and the Blue Bulls.
    Jamie Zwiegelaar is a flanker of note and showed that he will be a contender for this year’s Cravenweek team to Stellenbosch. He is a good fetcher and can take the ball up to the opposition. He always showed against THS that he could kick to goal if needed.
    PW Smit (flank), Doep Joubert (lock and captain), Lieb Du Raan (eight-man), Hannes du Toit (lock) and Ivan Fourie (prop) can feel more than happy with their performances for the winning team.
    JP Thomas (centre) scored three tries while fullback Hein Mulke twice crossed THS’s try line. For THS Christo Erasmus (prop) scored their only points via a penalty. Their captain and centre Drikus Cornelissen never gave up.
