Friday brought a Switch Schools SA20 – Volume Two showdown between Bethlehem Voortrekker and Hoërskool Trio to Kroonstad.
Showing a good understanding of their home pitch, Trio’s batsmen led their team to an eight-wicket victory.
The visitors, Voortrekker, batted first, but suffered a double-blow in the fourth over of their innings when WJ van Niekerk dismissed both Voortrekker openers within the space of three balls
The next two batsmen didn’t last too long either, with Chesline Mogasi and Van Niekerk nabbing a wicket each. Van Niekerk spearheaded Trio’s attack, finishing with 3/15 from four overs.
The Kroonstad side’s rapid successes were, however, ended by Vlag Janse van Rensburg, who made his way to the crease after the fall of the third wicket. Playing with freedom, he belted 12 deliveries for fours and launched another four over the boundary in an eye-opening 85 from only 42 balls.
Trio cheered with relief when Theuns van Rensburg sent his namesake’s bails spinning through the air.
Myburgh Jacobs grabbed two wickets late in the Voortrekker innings to help his side limit the Bethlehem boys to 142/7 after their 20 overs.
Trio’s Theuns van Rensburg opened the batting for his side and impressed with nine fours and a six in a speedy 46 off 31 balls. Thato Nthebere, however, accounted for both openers, but their removals brought Zayne Williams and Myburgh Jacobs to the crease. They took almost no time to settle in before going after the Voortrekker bowlers.
Williams blasted an unbeaten 38 off 18, cracking four fours and three sixes, while Jacobs weighed in with two of each in making an unbeaten 25 from only 12 deliveries.
When Williams sent the first delivery of the 15th over flying over the boundary, Trio reached 148/2 and with that secured a convincing win with 29 balls in hand.
Summarised Scorecards
Bethlehem Voortrekker Hoërskool 142/7 (Vlag Janse van Rensburg 85; WJ van Niekerk 3/15, Myburgh Jacobs 2/39); Hoërskool Trio148/2 (Theuns van Rensburg 46, Zayne Williams 38*, Myburgh Jacobs 25*, WJ van Niekerk 24; Thato Nthebere 2/41). Trio won byeight wickets.
There was a local showdown in the Diamantveld Wildeklawer T20 on Friday when Hoërskool Diamantveld, took on the NCC Hub on the Kimberley Country Club B Oval.
Diamantveld might be the hosts, but their warm welcome faded on the field where they romped to a one-sided nine-wicket win.
The toss went the Hub team’s way, but they were met by a fiery Diamantveld bowling attack, who ran through the opposition batting, bowling them out for only 86 after 19 overs.
Opener Tlhafelo Gabannelwe stood firm and defied the Diamantveld bowlers, but around him he saw his batting partners come and go one after the other. When he lost his wicket, he had faced 38 balls, struck four fours, and contributed the innings’ top score of 29 runs.
Unfortunately for NCC Hub, his departure meant there was little resistance against the Diamantveld assault. Francois Holtshausen led the onslaught, capturing 3/9 in three overs, while Nathan Baird knocked back 3/23 in four overs.
When Diamantveld took to the crease, opener Cobus Fourie batted with serious intent, cracking an unbeaten 43 off 26 deliveries, striking five fours and two sixes. He and Neil Steynberg produced a 68-run opening stand from 44 balls, with Steynberg contributing a quick 26 off 18.
Botshelo Diphaye, then, claimed the wicket of Steynberg, caught by Phumzile Makatong, but Diamantveld cruised to victory, reaching 87/1 after only 10.1 overs.
Hoërskool Outeniqua vs Hoërskool Montana
Hoërskool Outeniqua won the toss and elected to bat first against Hoërskool Montana on the CBC Backfield. Montana accepted that decision and, led by Juan Theunissen, they ripped into the Outeniqua batting.
Theunissen removed half of the opposition’s batsmen in only four overs, snagging 5/28, but Hanno Swart and Idan Balzun, in the middle order, held up Montana’s charge, sharing a 70-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Swart scored 37 off 36 balls, while Balzun chipped in with 26 off 25. Despite their sound stand, Outeniqua was skittled for just 118 after 19.5 overs.
Opener Marco Rudolph led Montana’s run chase but was dismissed only one run shy of a fifty, out for 49 from 29, which featured six fours and a six. Monties, though, had momentum on their side, and they raced to 119/4 after 12.2 overs to win by six wickets.
Johalin Oosthuizen was the only Kwaggas‘ bowler to claim multiple wickets, collecting 2/27 from 3.2 overs.
Hoërskool Hans Moore vs Hoërskool Nelspruit
Hoërskool Hans Moore faced Hoërskool Nelspruit at the Diamond Oval. In a high-scoring affair, the Benoni boys tallied almost 200 runs and went on to score an impressive 25-run win.
Xavier van Biljon and Aiden Shaw were the mainstays of the Moories‘ innings, sharing a 100-run second wicket partnership off 67 balls. Opening batsman Van Biljon batted at two runs a ball, blitzing his way to 70 off 35 deliveries, with three fours and double that number of sixes. Shaw, meanwhile, rotated the strike and scored 37 off 35.
After their respective departures, Kenan Shaw smashed an unbeaten 43 off 18, launching four sixes and a four in his belligerent knock to boost Hans Moore to 197/6 after 20 overs.
Nelspruit made a hesitant start to their innings and although they were able to put a healthy number of runs on the board, they also shipped wickets regularly.
They were struggling before John Duncan’s electric 46 off 18, which included 10 fours and a six, revived their innings.
Janco Breyl produced a solid 39 off 31, striking six fours, but Nelspruit’s challenge was done after 18.2 overs, when the last wicket went down with the total on 172.
In four overs each, Kearan Weyers claimed 2/27, while Kyle Wratten picked up 2/33 for Hans Moore.
Summarised Scorecards
NCC Hub 86/10 (Tlhalefo Gabannelwe 29, Extras 20; Francois Holtzhausen 3/9, Nathan Baird 3/23); Hoërskool Diamantveld 87/1 (Cobus Fourie 43*, Neil Steynberg 26). Diamantveld won by nine wickets.
Hoërskool Outeniqua 118/10 (Hanno Dwart 37, Idan Balzun 26; Juan Theunissen 5/28); Hoërskool Montana 119/4 (Marco Rudolph 49; Du Preez Prinsloo; Johalin Oosthuizen 2/27). Montana won by six wickets.
Hoërskool Hans Moore 197/6 (Xavier van Biljon 70, Kenan Shaw 43*, Aiden Shaw 37, Adrian Watson 21); Hoërskool Nelspruit 172/10 (John Duncan 46, Janco Breyl 39, Luan Siebrits 21; Kearan Weyers 2/27, Kyle Wratten 2/33). Hans Moore won by 25 runs.
On Friday, day two of the Diamantveld Wildeklawer T20 in Kimberley, Stellenberg High opted to bat first against Hoërskool Monument at the Diamond Oval after winning the toss.
Unfortunately, the match was cut short by rain, but enough play had taken place for the Duckworth-Lewis-SternMethod to be applied, and it led to a win for Monnas, although it was pretty clear that the calculation was going to work out in their favour. When play ended, they were three runs shy of victory with 37 balls remaining.
The top five in Stellenberg’s batting order all made it into double figures. Unfortunately for Stellies, they failed to crack on much, and Wilhelm Smet‘s 23 runs off 20 balls was their largest contribution.
Once the top order was out, Stellenberg’s tail folded quickly, with their last four wickets going down for only 15 runs.
LeJeanBanks and Logan Weetman swept through the tail, with Banks collecting 4/15 in 3.4 overs, while Weetman took 3/29 in four overs as Stellenberg tallied 126 all out.
Monument made a poor start to their run chase, however, and were under early pressure after losing both openers cheaply.
Weetman, though, followed up his strong bowling performance with an excellent innings, smashing three fours and three sixes in a decisive 59 from 30 deliveries.
Stellenberg’s bowling was inconsistent. JJ Rothman claimed 1/9 in two overs, but JJAlberts wasn’t his usual effective self, going for 31 runs from his two overs.
Monument will feel satisfied with their rapid 124/5 from 13.5 overs, but a ball or two more might have allowed them to win without calling on a mathematical method to determine the outcome.
Paarl Boys’ High vs CBC Invitational
At the Sol Plaatjie University‘s South Campus, the CBC InvitationalXI chose to bat first against Paarl Boys’ High. A tight contest unfolded, but some individual brilliance in both the batting and bowling departments resulted in a 13-run victory for the Invitational side.
Their innings started poorly, however, with Boishaai opening bowler, Aden Batt, dismissing both openers on his way to a tidy 2/13 from four overs.
Noah Breyl, batting third in the order, changed the course of the Invitational side’s innings by wrestling control of the contest from the Bolanders. He thumped nine fours and four sixes in an electric 78 from only 42 balls.
Faizeen Kajee, who made his way to the middle after the fall of the second wicket, proved to be a great sidekick to Breyl, contributing 57 off 44, which included five fours and three maximums. Together, they added 115 runs for the third wicket from only 68 deliveries.
Ra’ed Fredericks was the pick of the Paarl Boys’ High bowlers, removing both Breyl and Kajee and adding two more victims to finish with 4/33 from four overs.
At the end of their 20 overs, the CBC Invitational XI had posted a challenging 161/6.
Boys’ High’s run pursuit was undermined by the loss of wickets at regular intervals, with Otliwile Diphokaje, who captured 3/25 in four overs, joining forces with Faizeen Kajee, who snapped up 3/24 in four, to keep the opposition under pressure.
Christo Muller top scored with 38, while Daniel Francke chipped in with 27, but Booishaai failed to see out their overs, with their innings ending after 18.3 overs on 148 all out.
Boland Landbou vs NCC Hub
The NCC Hub won the toss at Kimberley Boys’ High and chose to bat first against Boland Landbou, but they found the Farmers‘ bowlers to be a handful and failed to make it to triple figures, which led to Boland Landbou recording a comfortable eight-wicket victory.
Troy Davis was in top form for the Paarl school, acquiring 3/10 in four overs, while Janco Venter and Louis du Plessis aided their team’s bowling efforts with two wickets each.
Ikanyeng Matlhoko tallied an unbeaten 26 for the Hub, while Katlego Pharedi scored 22, but no other batsmen exited single figures as the Hub was dismissed for only 94.
Facing a modest run chase, the Farmers went hard at the Hub’s bowlers and it paid dividends. After only 7.3 overs, they had rocketed to 95/2 and victory, scoring at almost 13 runs per overs.
Francois Prins smashed seven fours and a six in his fiery unbeaten 42 off 18, while Gideon Kotze weighed in with 37 off 23, thumping four fours and two maximums. Together, they enjoyed an 89-run second wicket partnership off only 40 deliveries.
Summarised Scorecards
Stellenberg High 126/10 (Wilhelm Smet 23; LeJean Banks 4/15, Logan Weetman 3/29); Hoërskool Monument 124/5 (Logan Weetman 59). Monument won by five wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method.
CBC Invitational 161/6 (Noah Breyl 78, Faizaan Kajee 57; Ra’ed Fredericks 4/33, Aden Batt 2/13); Paarl Boys’ High 148/10 (Christo Muller 38, Daniel Francke 27, Extras 25; Faizaan Kajee 3/24, Otliwile Diphokaje 3/25). CBC Invitational won by 13 runs.
NCC Hub 94/10 (Ikanyeng Matlhoko 26*, Katlego Pharedi 22; Troy Davis 3/10, Jaco Venter 2/4, Louis du Plessis 2/15); Boland Landbou95/2 (Francois Prins 42*, Gideon Kotze 37). Boland Landbou won the match by eight wickets.
Dian Taljaard and Wander Roolvink mowed down the Queens bowling attack with brilliant half-centuries. Photo: Supplied.
Dian Taljaard and Wander Roolvink scythed sensational half-centuries to build a rock-solid platform for Noordheuwel in a 139-run Switch Schools SA20 Volume Two victory over Queens High School on Noordheuwel’s Main Oval on Friday.
Taljaard assessed the conditions and opted to bat first before mowing down the Queens’ bowling attack as the hosts rumbled their way to 217/2.
Nories then unleashed their bowling attack, which ran through the Queens’ batting and bundled them out for only 78 runs in 18.5 overs.
Taljaard tonked 11 fours and six sixes as he rocketed to 95 from just 47 deliveries and shared a dominant 134-run opening stand with Roolvink, who also went hard at the visitors.
Roolvink struck five fours and three sixes for an unbeaten 50-ball 72 and kept Noordheuwel rolling after Taljaard’s dismissal. He also shared a 66-run second-wicket partnership with Reney van der Berg, who made a brisk 29 off 19 deliveries.
Then, when Noordheuwel took to the field. JD Bezuidenhout and JJ Basson made life uncomfortable for the Queens’ top order and were rewarded with three wickets in the powerplay. That start set the tone for the rest of the innings as Queens was kept off balance.
Heinrich Smith starred for Nories with a return of 3/11 from three overs, while Tristan Helmand and Bezuidenhout bagged a brace each. Helmand finished with 2/10 in 2.5 overs, while Bezuidenhout picked up 2/25 in three.
Queens would have recorded a much lower total had the hosts been better disciplined with their lines. Twenty-eight extras were the largest contributor to the Queens’ total. None of their batsmen made it to 20.
Nkateko Maluleka top-scored with a laboured 18 from 22 balls, while BafanaMthunzi, with 12, was the only other player to reach double figures.
Summarised Scorecard
Noordheuwel 217/2 (Dian Taljaard 95, Wander Roolvink 72; Thami Lethebele 1/21, Nkateko Maluleka 1/31). Queens High 78/10 (Nkateko Maluleka 18, Bafana Mthunzi 12; Heinrich Smith 3/11, Tristan Helmund 2/10, JD Bezuidenhout 2/25). Noordheuwel won by 139.

On Friday, they beat St Peter’s College 44-33 before holding off a stern challenge from St Alban’s College, claiming a one-point 30-29 win.
After winning one match and losing to King’s Linbro on Friday, Hilton College decisively defeated St Peter’s College 41-9 and followed up with a 33-17 victory over Inanda Invitational.

Day two at the St Stithians Water Polo Invitational was moving day in the group stage, with the top contenders separating themselves from the rest of the field.
There was no slowing down Herschel Girls High who, after two dominant wins on Thursday, added a commanding 21–5 victory over CrawfordLonehill on Friday.
The Capetonians stamped their authority early, taking a 5–1 lead in the opening chukka and kept pressing the accelerator to lead 9-2 by halftime. In the third chukka, they doubled that score, going 18-4 up, before ending with a 16-goal margin of victory.
Later, they were made to work hard by Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) Makhanda, but Herschel pulled out a hard-fought 7–5 win to finish in first place in Pool A with an unbeaten record.
Clarendon High School for Girls also impressed, posting a strong 8-4 win over Woodridge College before swamping Crawford Lonehill 18-2 to secure second place in the group. DSG Makhanda ended their Pool A campaign on a high, defeating Woodridge College 7–1.
In Pool B, St Anne’s Diocesan College, from KwaZulu-Natal, continued their fine form with a dominant 12–5 win over St Peter’s College. They followed that with a convincing 11–4 victory over Reddam House Bedfordview to keep their clean record intact.
The clash with Reddam Bedfordview was close in the early going, with the sides locked at 2–2 for most of the first chukka. St Anne’s broke open the tie late in the quarter to lead 3–2 and then gradually pulled away, stretching their lead to 5-3 at halftime, before adding four goals in the third and two more in the final chukka to seal a comprehensive win.
Reddam House Constantia bounced back from two narrow day one defeats with comfortable wins over St Peter’s College, by 10–5, and Collegiate Girls’ High, by 10-2. Reddam Bedfordview also scored a 7-4 win over Collegiate.
Pool C proved to be fiercely competitive, but Pearson High maintained their strong form with a 9–2 victory over St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls and shared a hard-fought 3–3 draw against St Mary’s Waverley.
Roedean showcased their attacking flair once again, overcoming Beaulieu College 8–3 before edging past St Mary’s 3–2 in a tense finish to top the group. St Dom’s wrapped up their pool campaign with a confident 8–3 win over Beaulieu College.
Meanwhile, in Pool D, the hosts St Stithians College continued to shine, producing an outstanding performance in a 10-6 triumph over Durban Girls’ College (DGC), which decided first place in the group. That win left Saints undefeated after an earlier 17-1 demolition of Kingsmead College.
DGC had earlier cruised past Rhenish Girls’ High 10–3, while Kingswood College stayed in contention for a quarterfinal spot with two wins, beating Rhenish 8–5 and Kingsmead 10-1.

Northwood claimed the closest victory of the 2025 Wildekalwer as they pipped Die Hoërskool Menlopark in a fixture that went all the way down to a super over.

By the end of 40 overs, the two sides were locked at 124 runs each. Parkies’ Jovan Hartman led his side’s batting efforts with an unbeaten 36 runs, while, for Northwood, Thomas Oosthuizen (38) and James Searle (29) put in the hard yards.
As far as the bowling went, Thabiso Mtambo was Northwood’s pick with 2/21, while for the Parkies, Heinrich Claassen produced an economical spell for figures of 1/13, playing a major role in forcing the match to go to a super over. In the super over, Keegan Reeves was the deciding factor with 2/6, which clinched the match for the side from KZN.
St Andrew’s School finally enjoyed the taste of victory, handing the “Horseflies” of Durban High School their third defeat on the bounce, but only by a mere three runs. Andrew Sobiech (58) and Grové du Preez (45) played leading roles in Saint’s first victory.
Sobiech’s 58 might just prove to be the turning point for the side from Bloemfontein, following their batting woes over the weekend thus far, helping his side to their highest total (158/8) in three encounters.
Ethan Cooper replied with a superlative 72, supported by Ismaeel Omar (27). Leg-spinners Nikhil Sukraj (2/19) and FG Botha (2/32), however, halted the Horseflies’ charge to secure the narrow victory.
Paul Roos Gimnasium also claimed a first victory at this year’s tournament, beating Grey College by an equally nail-biting two runs. Matthew Seymore, originally from the Highveld, led the Paul Roos batting attack with 45 runs. Liam Basson supported with 38 to get the side from the Western Cape to 140/7 in 20 overs.
Grey College appeared set to chase the target down comfortably, especially after Daniel Hattingh got going for his 63. His wicket, however, came at just the right time, claimed by Marcus Conradie (2/17), and changed the flow of the game.
Affies recovered from an earlier loss and disappointing batting display against Jeppe to beat the CSAHub Invitational XI convincingly by 60 runs.
Opening batsman JP Botha was at his fluent best with a quick but mature 72, while youngsters Christian Linde (37) and Albie Morkel’s offspring, AJ Morkel (36), contributed well to lead the defending champions to 180/6 in 20 overs.
The ever-reliant duo of Ruben Groenewald and Vihan Pretorius then did their thing with the ball, claiming 3/14 each, to restrict the CSA Hub side to 120/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Summarised scorecards
Menlopark 124/7 (Jovan Hartman 36*; Jordan Matthews 2/21, Thabiso Mtambo 2/33); Northwood 124/5 (Thomas Oosthuizen 38; James Searle 29; Heinrich Claassen 1/13). Northwood won in the super over.

Prior to this, Kloof overcame Rondebosch Boys’ High on Thursday and St David’s Marist on Friday morning.
Frontline batsman Rico van der Walt delivered the goods to lead the onslaught with 65 runs. Fellow opener, AJ de Villiers, contributed 55 while Riley Miller made a quick 26 to get the Klofies to 177/7 in the allotted 20 overs.
Westville’s Tristin Delvin replied with a well-played 68, but was the only batsman to make a noteworthy contribution.
Young left-arm turner, Rivan Booysen, was the best Klofie bowler, snapping up 3/17. Jean Cloete, another young left-arm turner, backed him up with 2/29 as Westville could manage only 140/8, suffering a 37-run defeat.
Jeppe High School for Boys put together a first innings total of 186/5, with Aiden Reyneke taking the lead with an entertaining innings of 59. This enabled Jeppe to comfortably beat Grey High with 67 runs. The collective Jeppe batting effort was backed up by some disciplined spin-bowling and efficient fielding.
Keegan Caxiera was the pick of the Johannesburg bowlers with figures of 2/12, while Zizi Mkhize (2/19) and Reza Ayob (2/32) provided the necessary support. Grey High’s captain, Teun Kloppenberg, appeared positive with the willow, making 25 in the chase. Unfortunately, Grey High could only manage 119 before the last wicket fell.
The clash between Rondebosch Boys’ High and St David’s Marist pitted Ethan de Heer Kloots and Daniel Bosman against Jason Rowles. The Bosch due came out on top for the side from the Western Cape to win by nine wickets. De Heer Kloots (3/9) and Bosman (2/10) combined with five wickets for only 19 runs, while Rowles scored 33 of St David’s 77 runs.
The Bosch duo then batted well together, with Bosman (29*) taking the lead this time around and De Heer Kloots supporting with 28. Rowles was the only St David’s bowler to pick up a wicket (1/8).
King Edward VII bagged their second victory of the day. The side from Johannesburg beat Wynberg Boys’ High with six wickets in another low-scoring affair. Connor Kuijers was exceptional. His 5/15 broke the back of the Wynberg batting attack, who managed only 80 runs. Zieg Roos (28) and Luke Clark (27) handled the chase, securing a vital victory.

After topping their respective pools, Rondebosch Boys’ High, South African College High School(SACS), St David’s Marist Inanda, and St Stithians, marched into the last eight.
They will, however, have to wait until 09:30 on Friday morning to find out who they’ll face for a place in the semifinals.
Bishops Diocesan College, Hilton College, St John’s College, and KearsneyCollege all finished second in their pools, meaning they’ll have to win a cross-pool playoff match to reach the quarterfinals.
In Pool A, Rondebosch and Bishops continued their dominance, scoring big wins over Michaelhouse and Pearson High, respectively. The Cape Town rivals then met to decide first place in the group.
It was a nail-biting Bish/Bosch clash, with coach Jared Wingate-Pearse’s Rondebosch side making their intentions clear from the get-go. They quickly rushed to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, thanks to a Kieran Bennewith brace.
Bishops responded in the second chukka through James Malan and Christo Le Roux. That wasn’t enough, though, as Zack Labuschagne, Noah Reiback, and Jason Warneke netted to make it 5-2 to ‘Bosch at the halftime break.
The second half was all about Rondebosch despite an attempted late comeback by coach Jabulani Sibiya’s Bishops’ boys.
Nathan Corlett added his name to the scoresheet before Bennewith made it seven and completed his hat-trick in the process.
Tim Young and Matt Fenn led a late charge for Bishops, but it had come too late, and Dante Moore joined the scoring action before Rondebosch sealed an 11-8 win with strikes by Labuschagne, Warneke, and Reiback.
There was another decider in Pool B between St John’s and SACS. Both were also unbeaten after wins over St Benedict’s College and Jeppe High School for Boys earlier in the day.

In the opening two chukkas, there was very little to separate the sides, with St John’s narrowly ahead by 4-3 at the break.
Their goals came from braces by Luke Shipway and Christopher Chapman, while Ben Bigara netted two, and Luca Orgill scored from five metres out for SACS.
The second half was tightly contested, and the goalkeepers, Seth Hopkins and Oskar Stahljans, were frequently called into action.
After a long period with no goals, Simon Mussett made it five for St John’s before Bigara completed his hat-trick.
The Johannesburg side got their sixth through Fu-Nam Chen in the fourth chukka, but SACS scored twice through Bigara to snatch a thrilling 6-6 draw.
With that share of the spoils, SACS finished on top of Pool B on goal difference.
First place in Pool C was decided when St David’s defeated Hilton 11-7.
The Sandton-based side had overwhelmed Pretoria Boys High 9-4 earlier in the day, while Hilton brushed off Woodridge College 10-1.
It was, however, St David’s who made a bright start, firing into a 2-0 lead in the first chukka before Hilton fought back to trail only 4-5 midway through the contest.
In the second half, coach Dean Whyte‘s St David’s side upped the ante and outscored Hilton by six goals to three in the remaining two chukkas.
For a second day running, there were valiant contributions from Luke Laporte, Matthew Peacock, Cooper Haworth, and Danilo Giuricich.
The hosts, St Stithians, drew 5-5 with Kearsney on day two of the Saints Stayers but progressed to the last eight after finishing atop Pool D. Photo: Debbi Adcock Photography.
The day’s proceedings ended with a Pool D fixture between the hosts, Saints, and the defending champions, Kearsney College.
Saints hadn’t lost a single game up to that point, but Kearsney had been stunned by Affies earlier in the day, with the Pretoria school claiming a 10-8 win.
In the opening chukka, Kearsney looked sharp and they edged ahead. St Stithians came out firing in the second chukka, however, which brought them a slender 4-3 halftime lead.
It was end-to-end stuff in the second half, with coach Nic Rodda‘s Kearsney snatching back the lead.
Coach Michael Stewart’s team talk heading into the fourth chukka worked like a charm, though, as Saints grabbed an equaliser to level the game at 5-5. That put St Stithians through to the quarterfinals after bagging six points to Kearsney’s five.
That leaves Kearsney to tackle their KZN rivals, Hilton College, in the pick of the quarterfinals’ clashes.

DHS has come out strong in the first two sessions of the Wildeklawer T20. The KwaZulu-Natal has pulled together. Photo: DHS on Facebook.
Troy Gordon and Ismaeel Omar produced stellar performances with the bat for King Edward VII (KES) and Durban High School (DHS) against St Andrew’s School and Wynberg Boys’ High respectively to power their sides to victories in their Wildeklawer T20 matches on Friday.
King Edward VII (KES) vs St Andrew’s School
Zieg Roos, the KES captain, placed his trust in his batsmen and opted to visit the crease first when the toss went his way. Gordon, who has been in superlative form, repaid his skipper’s confidence by keeping the ball on the ground as he stroked six fours on his way to a steady 45-ball 55 that set KES up for a total of 144/6.
Roos then deployed his bowlers well, and they dismissed St Andrew’s for 116 in 19.1 overs to record a 28-run win.
Gordon was forced to make an early appearance at the crease after Luke Clark lost his wicket in the first over. Playing with composure, he spent the next 15.2 overs in the middle and shared a 71-run third wicket partnership with Roos, whose measured 24 from 29 balls was the Johannesburg school’s second-highest score.
When St Andrew’s batted, they were unable to establish a foothold, thanks mostly to the efforts of Connor Kuijers and Lebone Ramedupe, who snapped up three wickets each for KES. They finished with almost identical analyses, with Ramedupe picking up 3/16 in four overs, and Kuijers claiming 3/17 from four.
FG Botha top-scored for St Andrew’s with 25 from 24 balls, while Reuben van Aarde contributed 22 from 22 deliveries.
Durban High School (DHS) vs Wynberg Boys’ High
Left-handed opening batsman Ismaeel Omar slashed 87 from 59 balls to lead DHS to 158/5 against Wynberg on Pretoria High School Old Boys’ Hofmeyr Park AField. School‘s bowlers then gave little away to hold Wynberg to 147/4 in reply, thus resulting in an 11-run win for the Horseflies.
Omar almost lasted the entire DHS innings, losing his wicket with only two balls remaining. By then, though, he, along with Taine Havermann, who weighed in with 35, had set up their side for victory.
When Wynberg replied, Michail Tarentaal was the joint top run-scorer with Storme van Rooyen, with both tallying 36 runs. Unfortunately for Cape Town school, they couldn’t escape the shackles of a tidy DHS attack, and they came up a little short of the mark.
Grey High School vs CSA Hub Invitational XI
At the Gijima Sports Ground, Connor Parry packed four fours and two sixes into an unbeaten 46 from 35 balls to set the stage for Grey High’s six-wicket win over the CSA Hub Invitational XI. Chasing the Hub XI’s modest 82 all out, Grey cruised to victory in 13 overs, with Parry’s knock doing the heavy lifting.
Only three batsmen from the Invitational XI, Mkosibonile Sibisi (17), Daveric Petersen (16), and Kurt Botha (12) reached double figures.
Jeppe High School for Boys vs Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool
Jeppe edged out Affies by a single run in a low-scoring thriller at Sinovich Park, performing a minor miracle by successfully defending a sub-standard score.
The Kensington boys won the toss and chose to bat first but run scoring was tough and they stumbled to only 90 all in their 20 overs.
Petrus Rautenbach was Affies’ destroyer in chief, sending four batsmen packing for only nine runs from his four overs, while Ryan Young led Jeppe’s batting effort with 22 runs from 17 balls.
It didn’t appear as if Jeppe had posted a winning total, but 90 runs proved to be just enough. Shreth Kumar led their bowling attack, snaring 3/15 from four overs, which helped to ensure Affies came up agonisingly short, finishing on 89/8 in reply.
JP Botha was Affies’ highest scorer with 21 runs from 24 balls, while Vihan Pretorius and Daniel Murray added 16 runs each.
