South Africa u19 Women have clinched a 2-0 lead in their three-match T20 series against USA u19 Women following a commanding seven-wicket win on Tuesday in Franschhoek.
After being sent in to bowl, the South African side delivered a disciplined performance to restrict the visitors to 114/8 in their 20 overs.
Captain, Kayla Reyneke, led from the front with an impressive three-wicket haul, while Nthabiseng Nini provided crucial support, claiming two wickets.
In response, Jemma Botha anchored the chase with a superb unbeaten 54. She set the tone with Simoné Lourens (21), the pair contributing a solid 40-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Botha then found a reliable ally in Diara Ramlakan (26), and the hosts comfortably reached the target with more than four overs to spare.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow for the third and final match of the series.

Beknopte telkaarte:
Bethlehem Voortrekker 88/9 (Paul Naudé 34*; Dundre Hales 3/23, Johanco Nel 2/15, Eduard Dreyer 2/16); Wesvalia 89/4 (Eduard Dreyer 22, Ekstras 21; Jordan Buitendag 2/17). Wesvalia wen met ses paaltjies.
Hoërskool Rustenburg 152/7 (Tristan van der Linde 75, Dehan Jacobs 26; Lucius Goosen 3/32, Durandt Lubbe 2/29); Driehoek 85 (Drikus Meiring 16; Baba Metsileng 3/25, Lamarck Henry 2/3, Keanu Janse van Vuuren 2/4). Hoërskool Rustenburg wen met 67 lopies.
Merensky 75 (Rinaldo Bornman 26; Roche le Roux 3/14, MJ van Wyngaard 2/12, Janco de Lange 2/16); Overvaal 76/5 (Christiaan Schoeman 26; Waldo Mouton 2/8). Overvaal wen met vyf paaltjies.
With the rain holding off for most of Tuesday, Uplands College and St John’s College (Harare) were able to get in a quick T20 game on day two of the iHlobo Festival at Kearsney College. There was a tighter contest between St Alban’s and Falcon College, with both teams, from outside of KZN, given an opportunity to play ahead of the local sides.
Batting first on Osler Field, Uplands’ innings lasted only 12 overs as the Rams‘ bowlers struck regularly to prevent the White River school from putting together any useful partnerships.
Captain Leam van Zyl clattered three fours at the top of the order, top-scoring with 20 from 18 deliveries, while Luke Barnard blasted a six and two fours in his hasty 18 from 12 balls. but the remainder of the Uplands’ batsmen made five runs or less, which led to them being bowled out for only 68.
Hayden Saunders knocked over 3/4 in two overs, while Shivaan Chouhan bagged 3/14 in three. St John’s captain Connor Lovatt played his part by capturing 2/12 in three.
The Zimbabwean side, then, needed only 9.2 overs to claim a comfortable seven-wicket win.
Up front, opener James Manning anchored the innings with 28 not out from 40 balls, with two fours and a six, while Lovatt returned the same on the boundary front in his quickfire 17 from 9 before he was bowled by Leam van Zyl.
The Uplands’ skipper followed up on recording his team’s highest batting score with their best bowling return, claiming 2/10 in four overs, which included three maidens.
Falcon College had been set to take on Durban High School (DHS) in Durban on Tuesday. Instead, they tackled St Alban’s at Kearsney.
The Pretoria school batted first and tallied 108 all out in 18.5 overs, with only opener Ethan Nel, with 37, and captain Liam Basch, with 34, making it into double figures. Nel’s runs came from 39 balls, while Basch stroked four fours and a six in his 24-ball stay.
Falcon used six bowlers and all of them enjoyed success. Zane Sibanda nabbed 2/6 in two, while Reed Merick took 2/21 in four, and Zach Gover 2/23 in 3.5.
Unfortunately for the Zimbabwean side, they made a miserable start to their run chase, stumbling to 7/3 after two overs.
Callum Orford found the going comfortable, though. He bashed 48 from 40 balls, with two fours and three sixes, but Falcon’s next best return was 12 from Zach Gover.
Although 15 extras helped their total, they never quite were able to challenge the St Alban’s score. After 17.2 overs, Falcon College was all out for 93, leaving St Alban’s the winners by 15 runs.
Mduduzi Mahlangu captured 3/29 in four overs for the Pretoria school, while Luke Ward grabbed 3/33 in his four. Liam Basch, who took the new ball, knocked over 2/8 in three.
SCORES
Uplands College 68/10 (Leam van Zyl 20, Hayden Saunders 3/4, Shivaan Chouhan 3/14, Connor Lovatt 2/12); St John’s College 70/3 (James Manning 28*, Leam van Zyl 2/10).
St John’s won by 7 wickets.
St Alban’s College 108/10 (Ethan Nel 37, Liam Basch 34, Zane Sibanda 2/6, Reed Merick 2/21, Zach Gover 2/23); Falcon College 93/10 (Callum Orford 48, Mduduzi Mahlangu 3/29, Luke Ward 3/33. Liam Basch 2/8).
Pearson High School and Luke Hector, especially, would’ve been satisfied with their performances in their season openers against Zimbabwean opposition, Peterhouse and Hellenic Academy.
In preparation for the Makhanda Cricket Festival, which takes place from 9-12 January, Pearson took on a strong Peterhouse side in a Time match on Saturday, which was followed by a limited-overs game against Hellenic Academy on Sunday.
Peterhouse was the first to fall foul of the red-hot bat of Hector.
After a destructive spell by Peterhouse opening bowler Ryan Moyo, which had the home side in trouble, Hector worked hard and held up his end well, seeing off Moyo’s 12-over spell during which the visitors’ opening bowler snapped up five wickets while conceding only 22 runs. Moyo’s new ball partner, Cameron Oosthuizen, also got in on the act, claiming 2/26 in 10.4 overs.
Hector faced 108 deliveries while steadying the Pearson innings and accumulated a well-constructed 67 runs, which included 11 fours. Cale Price provided further support with a useful 31 to get the home side to 138 all out.
Inspired by the duo’s batting heroics, the Pearson opening bowlers were fired up. Jaydin Ward (2/13) and Kade Myburgh (3/16) had the visitors from across the border in early trouble on 24/3.
However, Cameron Rae and Victor Watama took a leaf out of Hector’s book by occupying the crease without chasing runs. Rae went on to record Peterhouse’s top score of 38 from 67 balls, while Watama grafted hard for his 32 from 56.
The pair’s efforts saw the visitors through to 125/9 when play was called for the day, securing a draw that would’ve also heightened their spirits.

On Sunday, in a limited-overs match against Hellenic Academy, Hector was again among the runs, this time scoring quickly to finish with 65 runs from just 49 balls.
He was aided in his effort by the solid platform that had been laid by Pearson’s opening batsmen, Jude Septoo and Zac Zietsman.
Septoo eventually lost his wicket for 49 after the pair had put on 93 for the first wicket. Zietsman kept going and went on to record his side’s highest score of 67.
Hellenic’s Dwayne Gambiza did the bulk of the damage claiming 4/46, including the wicket of the in-form Hector.
The Zimbabweans then found themselves struggling against Jonno Holmes, who quickly found his rhythm with the ball. Sending down 10 overs, he knocked over 5/23 to put Pearson on top.
Deanu Bezuidenhout picked up a further two scalps as Hellenic mustered 180 runs, leaving them well beaten, 62 runs shy of the Pearson total.
Summarised scorecards
Pearson 138/10 (Luke Hector 63, Cale Price 31; Ryan Moyo 5/27, Cameron Oosthuizen 2/23); Peterhouse College 139/10 (Cameron Rae 38, Victor Watama 28; Kade Myburgh 3/16, Jaydin Ward 2/13). Peterhouse won on the first innings.
Pearson 242/10 (Zac Zietsman 67, Luke Hector 65, Jude Septoo 49, Extras 31; Dwayne Gambiza 4/46, Kirby Madaramete 2/35); Hellenic Academy 180/10 (Daniel Makings 31, Oliver van Zyl 29, Dwayne Gambiza 21; Jonno Holmes 5/23, Deanu Bezuidenhout 2/18). Pearson won by 62 runs.
All roads in Makhanda will lead to Kingswood College, where schools’ cricket fans will be treated to four days of high-quality cricket action when the Makhanda Cricket Festival comes to life on Thursday.
The region’s top schools – Graeme College, Saint Andrew’s College, and Kingswood – take turns to host the season-opening showpiece, and Kingswood is home to the 2025 edition.
“We are excited to be this year’s hosts. We are looking forward to great action,” Andrew Birch, the Kingswood Head of Cricket and one of the festival’s organisers, said.
The event runs from Thursday, 9 January, to Sunday, 12 January, with teams competing in declaration cricket matches on the first day, 50-over contests on the second and third days, and T20 games on the final day.
The festival has been running for over 25 years and has often had 10 or more teams participating. However, the 2025 edition has been pared down to eight teams. Birch said this was done to improve the quality of cricket at the festival.
Pearson High School will make the one-and-a-half-hour trip from Gqeberha to join the local sides. Gauteng will be represented by two powerhouses, St David’s Marist Inanda and St Alban’s, while Peterhouse College and Hellenic make the trek from Zimbabwe.
“We are happy to have St Alban’s back. They didn’t attend the last couple of festivals. They are a strong and competitive outfit,” Birch said.
The event offers a good opportunity for up-and-coming players to show what they are capable of and to solidify their claims to places in their first XIs. It is also an opportunity for players to catch the eyes of provincial selectors, scouts, and the media with good performances. There is a good chance of some future stars making their mark.
“We have a side of exciting young players who are hungry to make an impact at the festival. Everyone is looking to fill the spots left vacant by last year’s matrics and this is an opportunity for youngsters to show what they can do,” Birch said of the host’s 1st XI.
The teams will spring into action on Thursday morning, at 9:00. The hosts, Kingswood, will lock horns with Hellenic. The contest between St Andrew’s College and St David’s is sure to attract attention and viewers on the SuperSport Schools app will be treated to a great clash, while Graeme College will square up against Peterhouse, and St Alban’s faces Pearson.

Beknopte telkaarte:
Driehoek 69 (Lucius Goosen 19; Joshua Visagie 5/5, Pieter Coetzee 2/12, Wilmar Myburgh 2/13); Duineveld 72/6 (Kian Naude 42*; Lucius Goosen 2/5, Louis Pieterse 2/14).

The final of the 2025 Cubs Week (for u19 teams) will be a rematch of the opening day clash between the hosts, the Southern Superstars, and the USA.
The Superstars won the opening day encounter by four wickets and they remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament.
In their semifinal against the Coastal Conquerors, the Superstars posted a solid 273/8 in their 50 overs, thanks to telling contributions from Adnaan Lagadien (94), Paul James (42), and Daniel Bosman (31).
The Conquerors were then bowled out for just 164, with Raeeq Daniels (3/35) leading the attack. He received good support from Taywin Adams (2/22), Bosman (2/28), and Callum Appollis (2/38).
The USA had little trouble in securing a 112-run victory over the Western Legends in their semifinal. The Americans batted first and were bowled out for 221 in the 43rd over.
Left-arm spinner Nathan Rossouw continued his impressive form, bagging 4/52, while Arjun Mahesh (64) led the USA’s charge with a valuable half-century.
In reply, the Legends were knocked over for just 109 runs, with Utkarsh Srivastava (3/8) inflicting the most damage.
The Northern Champions returned to winning ways with a five-wicket victory over the Central Gladiators. The Champions’ Jorich van Schalkwyk delivered a good all-round performance to lead his team to victory. He snared 2/12, the best performance by any of his side’s bowlers, and then steered his team past the victory target with an unbeaten 54 runs.
Namibia cruised to their first win of the tournament, thrashing the Eastern Warriors by 155 runs. The Biltong Farmers’ Ben Brassell (66) and Liam Basson (54) scored half-centuries to help their team reach 223/8 in their 50 overs.
The Warriors were then restricted to just 68 runs, with Junior Kariata (4/15) and Henry Grant (2/14) ripping through the Warriors’ batting.

She received valuable support from Kayla Reyneke (25) and Jemma Botha (22), ensuring the hosts posted a defendable score of 131/7.
Reyneke continued to shine, delivering an outstanding spell with the ball of 3/10 in just under four overs. Fay Cowling provided excellent support, claiming two crucial wickets as the SA bowlers worked together to dismiss the USA for 104 to seal the win for the home side.
