Welkom Gimnasium t. Duineveld om 12:30

Welkom Gimnasium: 15 Ronaldo Kiewiet, 14 Kamohelo Mokoena, 13 Taschon Meas, 12 Mojalefa Mathoka, 11 Jayden Weideman, 10 Julian Samuels, 9 Bokang Lesenyeho, 8 Ethan Jones, 7 Raylen Kirsten, 6 Lawrence Lamine, 5 Jayden Auld, 4 Ruan Greyling, 3 Keanen August, 2 Danté Smith, 1 Buchle Mxhabai.

Duineveld: 15 Gregon Jansen, 14 Jaqcuin Jasson, 13 Henry Page, 12 DJ Wandrag, 11 Shamaro de Klerk, 10 Ethan van Zyl, 9 Franco Erasmus, 8 Wihan Liebenberg, 7 Alek Andrianatos, 6 Freddie Collen, 5 Gert-White Grobbelaar, 4 Arno Luttig, 3 Ethan Prins, 2 Rayvain Wessels, 1 Chris Honnibal.

    Sandveld halfeindrondte bepalings: 11:45 – Hoopstad t. Bothaville; 13:15 – Wilgerivier t. Henneman.

    Sandveld B-liga eindstryd: 14:45 – Salomon t. Winburg

The Wesgrow Series continues this weekend after the holiday break.

Fichardtpark will be looking to continue asserting their dominance and build on their undefeated record for the season when they host Goudveld-Hoërskool in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Fichie Lions have been unstoppable this year, and they have recently been rewarded for their hard work during the season when Jaco Grobbelaar became their first player ever to be selected for the SA Schools team.

Their big lock has played a crucial role in their success this season, along with his scrumhalf, Devanté Claassen, the two wingers, Edward Mpinga and Janco Mollentze and their hooker, Luhan du Plessis.

The visitors are yet to get their first win in the Wesgrow series this year, and playing against Fichardtpark in Bloemfontein will not be an easy fixture at all.

Jim Fouché travels to Witteberg for their fixture.

Their captain and Craven Week hooker, Stefan Venter, has been their talisman this year. He and his forward pack come up against a Witteberg side who have impressed over the holiday, with many of their players excelling over the holiday at the VKB Week and the Rhino Week.

Their eighth man, Daniel Meintjies, and scrumhalf, Dries Stemmet, have been the standout players for the team from Bethlehem this year.

Their neighbouring school, Voortrekker, hosts Diamantveld for their clash.

The Diamonds found their form before the break with two impressive wins over Duineveld (30-15) and Hoërskool Trio (21-15).

They will look to continue building on that momentum this weekend. Their Academy Week centre, Simon Liversage, starred for the Griqua team in Johannesburg over the holiday, and their Griqua Craven Week players, Valentino Lenge (centre), Kyle Taute (winger), JJ Fourie (flanker), Achiles de Jager (flanker), FJ de Fries (prop) also performed well in George.

Voortrekker also had three players in the Griffons Craven Week team, with their lively scrumhalf, Alex Maree, their fullback, Tumi Khoza and their big prop, Cecil Parsons being selected to represent their province at the highest level for their age grades.

Their big hooker who can run like a winger, Arnold Ras, was also a standout performer at the Academy Week.

Hoërskool Trio had seven players in the Griffons Craven Week team and they will be looking to assert their dominance over Sentraal who have struggled to realize their full potential this season.

Their flyhalf, Byron Biennas, and centre, BJ Pelser, also combined exceptionally well at the Academy Week, leading the charge for the Griffons at that event.

Injury ridden Zwartkop face tough ask against Montana

Zwartkop will face a tough task when they cross swords with Montana in the SDC Noordvaal Cup Plate-division on Saturday.

The injury ridden team from Centurion will take the field with no less than five of their regular starters sidelined due to injuries.

Zwarries have been struggling to hit their straps this season only managing one victory against HTS Middelburg (37-24) as the continuous injuries stem their quest in search of any continuity.

Their openside flanker, Jandre Hanse, has been a shining light, putting his body on the line for his team throughout the season. Hanse has also been veracious at ruck time and plays a pivotal role on defence as well. At the back scrumhalf, Waldo Smith, will be one to look out for. Smith is a continuous threat around the fringes and has the ability to provide quick, clean ball to a dangerous backline.

Montana will be looking to build some continuity after they too managed to beat HTS Middelburg 24-16 in their last fixture before the break.

The big men upfront Hein du Preez (lock) and Ivaan Koltzaw (eight man) have been in good form. Du Preez and Koltzaw have featured heavily with the ball in hand and have been instrumental on defence for their side.

Monties’ fullback, Divan Nel, has proved to be a danger from the back with his ability to counterattack from anywhere on the field.

With both teams having an extensive break and being well rested this promises to be a totally different ball game which will go the full 70 minutes.

A wounded HTS Middelburg side will look to cause the upset of the season when they welcome Rustenburg on Saturday.

The men from North West are unbeaten in the competition thus far, with flyhalf, Jayden Meyer, and fullback, Lorenzo Snyers, being the danger men for their side as they look to continue their good form from earlier in the season and secure yet another victory as they look to come out on top in the Plate Division.

    The Teams:

  • Merensky has a mountain to climb in Brakpan

Merensky has a mountain to climb in Brakpan

Merensky kicks of their second half of the SDC Noordvaal Cup Bowl Division against Die Anker in Brakpan on Saturday.

The light blues have continued to impress after beating Eldoraigne 32-22 in their first encounter of the competition.

Although, they have a mountain to climb when they face Die Anker in their back yard. Die Anker have been impressive this year, only losing twice in their season thus far. The flank pairing AJ Roux (openside flank) and Divan du Plooy (Blindside flank) have been a menace at the break downs and will aim to disrupt as much Merensky ball as possible.

At the back the ever-impressive, Benton Giessing, slots in at flyhalf. Giessing has been in remarkable form this season proving to be vital in the dangerous attack his team possesses at the back.

Merensky on the other hand, possess some firepower of their own up front in the imposing figure of Waldie Haasbroek at the back of the scrum. The Craven Week eight man has nearly been unstoppable with ball in hand and has been the backbone of a very strong Merensky defence.

Byron Hendricks will look forward to the battle of the ten’s as he will look to outshine his opposite number in the ten jersey. The red-hot fullback for the light blues, Klokke Mohlala, moves to outside centre to make an already attacking backline more dangerous.

Potchefstroom Volkskool will host Alberton in their first fixture after the holiday break. Alberton has gained some momentum with their recent win over Dr. Malan (29-12) and will look to create some continuity against a wounded Volkies side. Volkies will want to put their recent loss against Eldoraigne (54-15) behind them to regain momentum in their hunt for silverware.

    The teams:

Die Anker vs Merensky 13:30 at Die Anker:

Die Anker: 15 Damien Muller, 14 Marcel Engelbrecht, 13 Duhan du Plessis, 12 Branden Crous, 11 Christiaan Nel, 10 Benton Giessing, 9 Danie Smit, 8 Hanru Piennar, 7 Divan du Plooy, 6 AJ Roux, 5 Ragan Pretorius, 4 Ruben Herbst, 3 Daniel du Toit, 2 Dihan de Villiers, 1 Buks Britz.

  • Can Candies stop Reds as Moyo returns?

Can Candies stop Reds as Moyo returns?

Hero of the previous match Vusi Moyo finds himself making his way back into the side after picking up a broken jaw right before the holidays and his ability to read a game will be welcomed back by the coaching staff.

King Edward VII will look to close out their return fixture against Pretoria Boys’ High School away this weekend, with a second win this season.

Kick-off this weekend is at 13:00 for the 1st XV’s taking place on Brooks Field.

Earlier in the year, the Reds put on a good show for their home crowd beating the Candies 28-19 in Johannesburg.

Catch all the action live on SuperSport Schools (www.supersportschools.com).

Comparatively, both teams have not had their best seasons and will be hoping to close out the remainder of the 2023 season in style and try to add a few more wins to their names.

The hosts have shown earlier in the season that they are not afraid to play an attacking style of play to get points on the board. KES this season have played in a similar manner trying to rack up the points on their opposition and to build pressure from early on.

It is highly doubtful that either side would change this style of play going into this fixture, which should be action-packed with fantastic runs, plenty of point-scoring opportunities and ferocious big hits.

Each of the school’s will be looking at their provincial players to provide some impetuous into their teams with each side having 3 (Pretoria Boys’ High School) and 6 (King Edward VII) players representing the Blue Bulls and Lions respectively.

An anticipated match-up that will be closely followed, will be that of Boys High captain Shaun Schurmann and South African Schools hooker Siphosethu Mnebelele.

However, both schools have the depth within their squads not to be reliant on these star players and the difference could be seen within the squads as to what could be a defining factor in this match and potentially the strength of their benches, where fresh legs could be key.

It’s these sorts of players who fly under the radar, put in the hard yards at training, during the season but can make a big impact when the moment is required.

Pretoria Boys’ High have shown that they possess a robust backline which is made up of some hardworking individuals such as centers Christoper Smith and Rickus Wessels.

With Moyo’s return, Tristan Maugeri finds himself back in the fullback position where he has had a successful season governing the back three, which includes the pace of Timi Oluwole.

Although KES might go in as favourites based on their previous outing, don’t rule out the hosts as they enter the match as underdogs and have nothing to lose.

Every dog has its day, and the hosts will be hoping to have the last bark, as they look to win one over their long-time rivals in front of a full house in Pretoria.

    The teams:

Pretoria Boys’ High: 15 Kyle Hezlett, 14 Itu Baloyi, 13 Christoper Smith, 12 Rickus Wessels, 11 Ntsako Ndlovu, 10 Tebogo Nchabaleng, 9 Joshua Naude, 8 Etienne du Preez, 7 Stephen Adams, 6 Ernest Van Rooyen, 5 Tsephpiso Shikhibana, 4 Randy Muzungu, 3 Ofentse Moeng, 2 Shaun Schurmann, 1 Kitso Mokoena.

With a blink of an eye and just like that the school holidays are over and teams across the country will be battling it out over the weekend again, with some highly anticipated fixtures taking place.

Affies will be playing host to Maritzburg College, who make their way up the escarpment to enjoy a weekend of action-packed sporting fixtures, with the first XV kicking off at 13:30 p.m.

Catch all the action live on SuperSport Schools (www.supersportschools.com).

Affies have had a season of highs and lows this season but have come out on top as victorious 7 out of 12 times, with their most recent loss coming against a very strong Grey College, where the side lost by 41 points.

However, during the season, the Witbulle have shown that they possess a very strong forward pack that is well aided by a skilful backline, with a never-die attitude which was evident in the final-minute winner against Jeppe High School for Boys.

Affies will be without Janco Purchase, who recently made the South African Schools side, along with the u18 Blue Bulls Craven week captain, Dieter Schubert, who has been out of action since sustaining a shoulder injury picked up in the Bulls clash in Sasolburg against the Sharks at the Noordvaal Bondedag.

The side will be captained by Steyn Truter and will be hoping that hooker FC van Rooyen puts in another big performance.

Winning 11 out of 16 matches thus far this season, the midlands school are bringing up a strong side, who will be looking to lock horns with the hosts, as they try to get one over the boys from the north. Five of the starting fifteen represented the Sharks Craven Week team.

Aiden Botha, Elbie Mouton and Phiwayinkosi Kubheka make up the Maritzburg front row and are players to keep on the radar as they will be gearing up for a classic head-to-head clash with a powerful Affies front row.

Kubheka and fullback Luyanda Kunene, both recently made the South African Schools side after some stellar performances at Craven Week. Kunene showed his promise in the recent match, where the South African Schools side came up against a

For many of the Maritzburg boys, this will be their last trip up to Pretoria and will want to leave their mark in the school’s history books as they strive to earn a victory up against a formidable Witbulle team.

Can the team walk away with a second victory in the jacaranda city, making it two out of two from their exchanges?

  • Six year winning streak on the line as Jeppe face Parktown Boys’ High

Six year winning streak on the line as Jeppe face Parktown Boys’ High

    PHOTO: Theo Garrun

Six years – that is the number of years Jeppe Boys’ High has had the upper hand on Parktown Boys on the Astroturf.

This Friday, confidence will come into play when Jeppe Boys High takes the short trip down to Parktown Boys’ High in one of the most grueling derbies in Gauteng.

Meanwhile, a desire to silence their counterparts on home soil will be the agenda of the day for Parktown.

Jeppe, one of the in-form sides this year, will be looking to continue the impressive run that landed them a spot in the Top 10 list of the school’s rankings in the first two terms of the year.

The visitors go into the clash high in confidence. In their last competitive match, they thumped provincial rivals Pretoria Boys High 5-0. That brought an end to a pretty dominant first quarter of the season for the side.

However, the side will be looking to assert themselves even more. With six players coming from the Provincial tournament which took place in Bloemfontein, the Gauteng side couldn’t dream of a better time to play their noisy neighbours than now.

Jaydon Brooker, who won the player of the tournament in Bloemfontein after leading his side to the final, only to lose to Western Province will likely start the match despite his involvement for the SA U18 side against the U21 team. ‘

Jeppe will also be counting on the services of Miguel De Jesus, Neo Chimanyi, and Diahn Alberts-Flynn – all of whom featured for the Southern Gauteng side in Bloemfontein.

The Parktown boys will go into the game to crash the party. After losing their last clash against Jeppe, the side will look to use the game as preparation ahead of their final match against Garsfontein next weekend.

The school hasn’t had its best season on the turf. However, the 2-1 against Affies in May can be used as an alarm to show dangerous the side can be on their day. They will also look to beat their opposition for the first time since 2014.
