    Brandfort and Wilgerivier clashes in Irawa-league final

    The Staatspresident Swart High School from Brandfort will face their toughest challenge yet when they meet Wilgerivier High School from Frankfort at 10:50 at Shimlapark in Bloemfontein in the final of the Kovsie-competition’s Irawa-league.
    Brandfort smashed Reitz by 50-15 to book their place in the final of the competition. Both teams are very successful over the last few years. Former Griffons’ player Spanjool Wessels coaches the side from Frankfort. While Pieter Swanepoel is Brandfort’s coach. Swanepoel coached the Free State’s Cravenweek-side last year.
    Brandfort still have to play without their captain and flyhalf Jan Frik Ludeke. Ludeke injured his knee in a friendly match earlier in the season. The brilliant lock Andrew Bester will lead the side.

  • Harmony Sportacademy has score to settle against Diamantveld

    The Harmony Sportacademy is strengthened by their senior provincial fullback Cecil Afrika for their Kovsie-competition final of the Shimla-league against Diamantveld. The match will kick off at 12:20 at Shimlapark in Bloemfontein.
     
    Diamantveld won the previous encounter earlier this year by 17-14. But they will have to work hard to defeat Harmony Sportacademy once again. A victory in the final will put a cap on a very successful season for the guys of the Northern Cape.
     
    Both teams are coached by former provincial players. Harmony Sportacademy’s Jacques Juries played for South Western Districts on the wing, while Abre Minnie played for Griquas in 1992.

  • Harmony Sportacademy in victory over JF

    Harmony Sportacademy tackled themselve to victory over Jim Fouche in their Shimla-league semi-final clash at Jim Fouche today. They won the match 21-3 after leading 14-3 at the break.

    Their captain and scrumhalf, Boela Abrahams, dictated play with his eduacated boot. Abrahams whom representes the SA Academy-side last year also led his team from the front. He was voted man of the match. 

    The Harmony Sportacadmy’s first try came in the form of their flyhalf Branco du Preez. Abrahams took a quick tap penalty after his opposite number Roelof Botha fed the scrum scew. The ball got to Du Preez who scored under the uprights.

    Du Preez made the second try after chipping over JF’s backline and regathering before off-loading to his inside centre Justin Claassen to score. Claassen who represented the SA Academy side earlier this year missed an oppurtunity early in the match to score when he couldn’t control the ball. Claassen and Du Preez played magnificently for the winning team.  

    Jim Fouche played much better in te second stanza of the match and the only points of the half came with the siren when Shannon Robertson, ouside centre of Harmony Sportacademy, showed soem pace and scored and Abrahams converted.

    Tokkie Holtzhausen, centre of Jim Fouche, scored his team’s only points via a penalty which also gave them the lead for the only time in the match. He also tackled well. Espee Visser (eightman and captain), Armand Wessels (wing), Johan Venter and Werner Pretorius (both props) can all feel pleased with their performances for the home team. 

    While Alvin George, Allister Vermaak (both props), Leroy Harmse (hooker) and Chaka Khoza (flank) were the forwards who mixed well for the winning team.

    Brandfort won their semi-final of the Irawa-league against Reitz High School convinsingley. They won the match 50-15.

  • Diamantveld win against Rooies

    Diamantveld secured thier place in the final of the Shimla-league with a victory of 32-19 over AHS Kroonstad in the semi-final of the competition at Absapark in Kimberley.

    The team of Kimberley scored 22 unanswered points before Rooiskool started to find their feet in the match.

    The winning team’s eightman and SA Academy player Byron Booysen played well. He was suppported well by Hennie Cloete (wing), Japie Naude (flyhalf), Janneman Jordaan (flank) and Wessel Lourens (captain and hooker).

    Wilgerivier High School of Frankfort will travel to Kimberley today to face HLNK Jan Kempdorp at Absapark in Kimberley in their semi-final of the Irawa-league of the Kovsie-competition.

    Wilegerivier is unbeaten the last five years in their league and will be a tough nut to crack for the Rotte of Jan Kempdorp.

    Staatspresident Swart early favourites in encounter against Reitz High School

    Staatspresident Swart High School of Brandfort are the favourites to win their semi-final encounter against Reitz High School in the Irawa-league of the Kovsie-competition. They are undefeated in theri last 35 encounters.

    They will go into today’s match without the services of their flyhalf and captain Jan Frik Ludeke. Rossouw van Staden who ussualy plays flank for the team of Brandfort will fill the big boots of Ludeke for the encounter against Reitz.
