Nkuna’s six wickets a stunning highlight at Girls Northern Region playoffs

The Nkowankowa Cricket Club‘s Nsovo Nkuna produced a remarkable spell of bowling to see the defending Switch Schools SA20 Girls’ Northern Regional champions to an emphatic 10-wicket victory over the Titans’ winners, Hoërskool Zwartkop, on Friday.

The girls’ playoffs feature only three teams – Nkowankowa, Zwartkop, and Boksburg’s Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen. Earlier in the day, Jansies also convincingly defeated Zwarries.

Nkowankowa, from Tzaneen, had to wait until the afternoon to make their bow. Then, they made a splash.

Nkuna maintained an immaculate line and length, a signature of the Nkowankowa attack and, almost single-handedly, dismantled the Zwartkop batting line-up. She gave nothing away, conceding no runs from her three overs. It was, however, her extraordinary haul of six wickets that left spectators at the St Dunstan’s College Oval in awe.

Behind Nkuna’s jaw-dropping 6/0 from three overs, Nkowankowa dismissed Zwartkop for a meagre 24. The defending champs overhauled that total inside the fourth over of their reply.

Earlier in the day, also at St Dunstan’s, EG Jansen‘s Tenique Williams produced a similarly noteworthy performance against Zwartkop, albeit with the bat. She fell just five runs short of a memorable century, smashing a scintillating 95 from only 50 balls, with 19 fours and a six included in her big innings, which accounted for more than half of her side’s total of 172/3.

With plenty of runs to defend, Jansies went hard at Zwarries with the ball. Jessica Morgan led their attack, capturing 3/16 from three overs as EG Jansen cruised to a commanding 59-run victory.

Nkowankowa and the EG Jansen meet on Saturday morning at Willowmoore Park in a match that could be a precursor to a second meeting of the sides in the final.

    Summarised scorecards

    Session 1

EG Jansen 172/3 (Tenique Williams 95, Extras 33, Nicia Swart 30; Mary-Kate Bothma 2/38); Zwartkop 113/8 (Genique Greeff 27, Extras 26; Jessica Morgan 3/16). EG Jansen won by 59 runs.

    Session 2

Zwartkop 24 (Mary-Kate Bothma 16; Nsovo Nkuna 6/0, Alicia Masela 3/3); Nkowankowa CC 27/0 (Tshepiso 12*; Genique Greeff 0/10). Nkowankowa CC won by 10 wickets.

Two unbeaten records will be put to the test on Saturday morning, the second day of the Northerns Region’s Switch Schools SA20 Volume Two playoffs.

Hoërskool Hans Moore will have the advantage of playing at home when they host Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies).

The formidable Benoni boys and the Pretoria powerhouse, the reigning Titans’ champions, have emerged as the teams to beat after Friday’s opening day action.

Affies underlined their credentials with a crushing 139-run victory over Hoërskool Marais Viljoen in their second fixture of the day at Willowmoore Park‘s B Field.

Vihan Pretorius rediscovered his best form, blasting a breathtaking 108 from just 48 balls, the standout innings of the opening day. He dealt almost exclusively in boundaries, with 86 of his runs coming from nine sixes and eight fours as he dismantled the Alberton school’s bowling attack. Pretorius was well supported by Ethan Williams, who added an unbeaten 34 in a commanding 137-run partnership.

The Affies’ bowlers then completed the rout, with Zian Labuschagne and JP Botha delivering outstanding spells. Labuschagne’s penetrative left-arm pace, which brought him 4/4 from four overs, was too much for Marais Viljoen.

Botha’s off-spin was also devastating, yielding 4/11 from 3.3 overs to take his tally for the day to eight wickets. In reply to Affies’ healthy 198/4, Marais Viljoen was dismissed for a paltry 59.

The Ysbere of Hoërskool Garsfontein quickly put their morning defeat to Hans Moore behind them and surged to a 75-run victory over the Black Caps of Hoërskool Ben Vorster.

Garsfontein’s bowling unit did most of the damage, restricting the Tzaneen side to just 76 all out. Rowan Plaaitjies led the way, knocking over 3/19, with good support from Katlego Lebelo, who snapped up 2/7, and Ruan Coetzee, whose disciplined new ball spell earned him 2/18.

Garsies’ 20 overs, when batting first, ended with the Pretoria school on 151/6, with Wikus du Preez (29) and Richardt Joubert (26) anchoring their effort. Khaya Majola and Cubs Week fast bowler Rivoningo Chuake stood out for Ben Vorster, capturing 2/38.

After their team narrowly missed out on a bonus point in their morning victory over Garsfontein, the Hans Moore spin twins, Kearan Weyers and Kyle Wratten, ensured Moories claimed the extra point from their afternoon clash against Merensky Landbou Akademie.

Wratten was devastating, returning the astonishing figures of 4/2 from four overs, while Weyers completed the demolition with 2/10 as the Plasies were knocked over for only 35.

A rapid 21 from six balls by Xavier van Biljon then sealed the bonus-point win for Hans Moore, who head into their blockbuster encounter with Affies brimming with confidence.

    Summarised scorecards

Affies 198/4 (Vihan Pretorius 108, Ethan Williams 42*, JP Botha 26; Marco Hoffman 2/26); Marais Viljoen 59/10 (Ziam Hashim 19; Zian Labuschagne 4/14, JP Botha 4/11). Affies won by 139 runs.

Garsfontein 151/6 (Wikus du Preez 29, Extras 28, Righardt Joubert 26; Rivoningo Chauke 2/38); Ben Vorster 76/10 (Khulani Mnisi 23; Rowan Plaatjies 3/19, Katlego Lebelo 2/7, Ruan Coetzee 2/18). Garsfontein won by 75 runs.

Merensky Landbou Akademie 35/10 (Extras 15, Willem Moster 9; Kyle Wratten 4/2, Kearan Weyers 2/10); Hans Moore 37/1 (Xavier van Biljon 21; Vir Patel 1/13). Hans Moore won by nine wickets.

Lunch at Hoërskool Hans Moore must have tasted just a little more flavourful than usual for Aidan Shaw and Kearan Weyers after they spearheaded their side to a scintillating victory over the defending Northern Region champions in the Switch Schools SA20 on Friday morning.

The younger of the Shaw brothers produced a statement performance, striking an unbeaten century in a 24-run win over Hoërskool Garsfontein on home soil in Benoni.

The hosts, however, narrowly missed out on a valuable bonus point, falling short by four runs of restricting the Ysbere to 120, which would have earned them an extra point.

Shaw was the central figure in a dramatic recovery after Moories slumped to 8/2 early on, and then to 12/3 in the fourth over.

Facing 70 of the innings’ 120 balls, the all-rounder smashed a superb unbeaten 103, peppering the boundary with 12 boundaries, six of which cleared the rope. Remarkably, he was the only Hans Moore batsman to pass 20, with the next highest score a modest 15 from Stephan Vermaak, which was almost seven times less than Shaw’s outstanding knock.

The bulk of the damage inflicted by the Garsiesbowlers was wrought by Ruan Coetzee, who produced an impressive new-ball spell, grabbing two wickets in his four overs, which cost 27 runs.

Weyers, Han Moore’s left-arm off-spinner, continued his outstanding form. Fresh off scoring 95 and bagging a four-wicket haul against Potchefstroom Gimnasium, he was again decisive, returning match-winning figures of 4/17 from four overs, which played a pivotal role in restricting the defending champions to 126 all out.

Riaan Boshoff top-scored for the Pretoria side with a fluent 38 from 28 balls to sound a warning ahead of Garsfontein’s afternoon clash against Hoërskool Ben Vorster.

At Actonville Cricket Club, Hoërskool Marais Viljoen swept aside Merensky Landbou Akademie, winning by six wickets behind an inspired innings from opening batsman Trent Shrives. Chasing 117 to win, Shrives struck an unbeaten 62 from 51 balls to almost single-handedly steer his side to victory. No other batsmen made it beyond the teens.

Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) also made a powerful early statement, skittling the Black Caps of Hoërskool Ben Vorster for only 58 to set up an emphatic eight-wicket victory.

JP Botha starred with a superb all-round display, which was highlighted by his 4/8 from four overs, which tore apart Ben Vorster’s innings. Later, he chipped in with an unbeaten 24.

Vihan Pretorius, who is usually a seam bowling threat, bowled off spin and was rewarded with two wickets in three balls in the 15th over. He was also part of a run out and finished with figures of 2/14.

AJ Morkel helped JP Botha make light work of the run chase. He faced only eight balls, but made them count, blasting his way to 23 runs as Affies overhauled the Limpopo side’s total in only five overs.

    Summarised scorecards

Hans Moore 150/5 (Aiden Shaw 103*; Ruan Coetzee 2/27); Garsfontein 126/10 (Riaan Boshoff 38, Arrie Verster 21; Kearan Wyers 4/17, Nathan King 2/7). Hans Moore won by 24 runs.

Merensky 116/9 (Logan Janse van Rensburg 26; Extras 23; Rieshaeel Hashim 2/16, Ethan van Rooyen 2/21, Zaim Hashim 2/22); Marais Viljoen 117/4 (Trent Shrives 62*; Yogi Brahmbatt 2/22). Marais Viljoen won by six wickets.

Ben Voster 58/10 (Ruben Pohl 13; JP Botha 4/8, Vihan Pretorius 2/14); Affies 59/2 (JP Botha 24*, AJ Morkel 23; Rivoningo Chauke 1/14). Affies won by eight wickets.

A formidable challenge awaits the representatives of Limpopo and Easterns as they attempt to topple Pretoria heavyweights Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) and Hoërskool Garsfontein in the Titans Regional Playoffs of the Switch Schools SA20.

Follow all the Switch Schools SA20 action live on SuperSport Schools – (www.supersportschools.com)

As was the case in the inaugural edition of the nationwide competition, the action will be hosted in Benoni, with the home of the Eastern Storm, Willowmoore Park, providing the stage for Sunday’s final.

The tournament gets underway on Friday, with the first ball scheduled for 09:30.

Affies and Garsies will fly the Titans’ flag, while Limpopo’s traditional powerhouses, Hoërskool Ben Vorster and Merensky Landbou Akademie, will represent the northern province. For Easterns, Hoërskool Hans Moore and Hoërskool Marais Viljoen will shoulder the hopes of the home crowd.

During the provincial phase, Affies dethroned Garsies, scoring a 43-run victory in the final. Both Limpopo and Easterns also produced new champions, with Ben Vorster emerging victorious in Limpopo, while Moories won the Easterns leg.

Day one will be headlined by a mouth-watering clash between Hans Moore and the defending regional champions, Garsfontein, on Friday morning. The sides met in the Wildeklawer Diamantveld T20 final at the end of 2025. Garsfontein won, albeit with their 2025 team.

Hans Moore has produced some excellent cricket over the past few seasons. They boast a strong and balanced squad, with several players now in their third year of First XI cricket. Experienced campaigners Aiden and Kenan Shaw and Stephan Vermaak will anchor the line-up, while the in-form all-rounder Xavier van Biljon adds further heft to the Benoni side’s title ambitions.

For the Ysbere, seasoned middle-order batsman Wikus du Preez will be pivotal, along with Charl van Staden, particularly with the prospect of a rematch against Affies and a place in the national playoffs at stake. Nathan Ferreira‘s controlled pace will spearhead Garsies’ bowling attack.

Affies, arguably the most balanced side in the competition, kicks off their campaign against the Limpopo champions, the Black Caps of Hoërskool Ben Vorster. It should be a compelling contest between seasoned campaigners and the exciting young talent from Tzaneen.

Affies’ recent unbeaten run at the Peninsula Week in the Western Cape underlines the threat they pose. All-rounders Vihan Pretorius and Zian Labuschagne headline an experienced line-up, with Armin Snyman and left-arm off-spinner Nico Loggenberg providing further quality. In addition, AJ Morkel, the son of former Proteas’ all-rounder Albie Morkel, arrives in scintillating form following the tour to the Cape.

The Plasies of Tzaneen face a daunting first day. They open against Marais Viljoen in the morning. In the afternoon, they tackle Hans Moore on Moories’ home ground.

Marais Viljoen’s afternoon assignment is a challenging outing against Affies at Willowmoore Park at 14:00.

  • Van der Walt’s love affair with Eldoraigne Oval continues

Van der Walt’s love affair with Eldoraigne Oval continues

A batting masterclass from wicketkeeper-batsman Rico van der Walt ensured that the Finsbury League‘s defending A Section champions, Hoërskool Waterkloof, made a rousing start to their campaign on Wednesday afternoon.

The Klofies faced the 2025 runners-up, Hoërskool Eldoraigne, on the Eldos‘ home field in Centurion under lights, a rarity in schools’ cricket, in conditions that suited the stroke-makers.

Van der Walt spearheaded an aggressive run chase of 197 for victory after a disciplined and collective bowling effort from Waterkloof.

As is often the case with Klofies, no single performance dominated their efforts, although Vorster de Villiers led the way with the best figures, claiming 3/50 from his nine overs.

The rest of the attack supported him well. Rian Klopper (2/13) and Christiaan Smit (2/32) made early inroads, sharing four wickets, to leave Eldoraigne reeling at 57/4 inside the first 10 overs. Left-arm off-spinner Rivan Booysen played his part, returning 2/22, as pressure was relentlessly applied.

For the hosts, Jean du Randt stood firm in the face of a sustained assault. He compiled a composed half-century, scoring a patient 57 from 82 balls as wickets fell around him. His only meaningful support came from Logan Early (24), who also had to graft hard for his runs.

Klofies didn’t enjoy the smoothest of starts in reply, losing three early wickets, but the in-form Wian du Plessis provided stability with a well-crafted 53 from 60 balls. At the other end, Van der Walt struck an unbeaten 81 from just 59 deliveries, lashing six sixes and five fours to unleash devastation on the home team’s bowlers.

It was a fitting performance on the same ground where he scored a magnificent 125 in last season’s Finsbury League final, and one that gave the champions a winning start to their defence of the title.

    Summarised scorecard

Eldoraigne 196 (Jean du Randt 57, Extras 32, Logan Early 24; Vorster de Villiers 3/50, Rian Klopper 2/13, Rivan Booysen 2/22, Christiaan Smit 2/32); Waterkloof 197/5 (Rico van der Walt 81*, Wian du Plessis 53; Angus Myers 2/39). Waterkloof won by five wickets.

  • Weyers wows as Hans Moore wins big

Weyers wows as Hans Moore wins big

Cricket Ball on BatKearan Weyers was the central figure as Hoërskool Hans Moore recorded a comprehensive victory in their 2026 Finsbury League season opener on Wednesday.

The Moories travelled to Potchefstroom to face Potchefstroom Gimnasium in a B Section fixture that had been postponed due to the Gimmies  involvement in the Central Region playoffs of the Switch Schools SA20 competition the previous weekend. It proved to be a fruitful journey as Weyers, almost single-handedly, dismantled the hosts with both bat and ball.

With his left-arm off-spin, he ripped through the Gimnasium batting line-up, removing four batsmen while conceding only 17 runs in a superb 8.3-over spell, which cost a miserly two runs per over.

Weyers enjoyed good support from Duan Maree (2/20), while only Lukas Kotze offered meaningful resistance for the hosts, compiling a patient 44 before becoming one of Maree’s victims.

The Potchefstroom Gimnasium innings lasted into the 36th over before they lost their last wicket on a modest 143.

The visitors, in reply, required just 15.1 overs to charge past that total, once again inspired by Weyers. Buoyed by his heroics with the ball, he unleashed a devastating assault at the top of the Moories’ order, smashing 12 fours and six sixes in a thundering 95 from only 43 deliveries.

When the Player of the Match eventually fell, caught by Damian Kruger off the bowling of Hendré Cronjé (1/31), he had already decided the outcome of the match.

Jahndré Coetzee (1/26) was the most economical bowler for the hosts, but that lone wicket proved to be little more than a consolation, with Weyers having already inflicted irreparable damage to seal an emphatic victory for the away team.

    Summarised scorecard

Potchefstroom Gimnasium 143 (Lukas Kotze 44, Bernard Judels 20; Kearan Wyers 4/17, Duan Maree 2/20); Hans Moore 145/2 (Kearan Weyers 95; Jahndré Coetzee 1/26). Hans Moore won by eight wickets.

  • Booysen takes five wickets as Waterkloof topples KES in annual derby

Booysen takes five wickets as Waterkloof topples KES in annual derby

    Photo: Provided.

A classy display of left-arm off-spin highlighted the annual meeting between Hoërskool Waterkloof and King Edward VII School (KES) on Saturday.

After winning on home soil in 2025, the Klofies again asserted their dominance by claiming a six-wicket victory in Johannesburg, inspired chiefly by the brilliance of Rivan Booysen. He topped the bowling charts, outfoxing five KES batsmen in just 8.1 overs.

His five-wicket haul came at the modest cost of just 17 runs, at an impressive economy rate of 2.8 runs per over, the best across both sides.

Still only in Grade 11, Booysen established himself as a regular for the Klofies while in Grade 10 last year.

He was ably supported by Jean Cloete (2/19), the son of renowned international umpire Johan Cloete, who currently heads the cricket programme at Midstream College.

Among Booysen’s victims was Tiago Dias, the home side’s top scorer, who weighed in with one of the match’s two half-centuries, scoring a well-compiled 54 from 62 deliveries. He received limited support, however, with only Troy Gordon (31) and Abdullah Mohammed (20) offering other meaningful contributions, as the hosts were restricted to 144 all out.

It quickly became clear that 144 was insufficient when the visitors set about the chase with purpose. An opening stand of 42 in just 6.4 overs between Wian du Plessis and AJ de Villiers (22) laid a solid foundation. Du Plessis, then, went on to anchor the innings, remaining unbeaten with a fluent 43*.

With Du Plessis holding down his end, wicketkeeper-batsman Rico van der Walt, batting in his preferred number-four position, took control. He struck the second half-century of the match, compiling 55 from 53 balls, before being run out by Luke Clark shortly before the target was reached.

Connor Kuijers was the home team’s most successful bowler, claiming the wickets of De Villiers and Jean Swart (16) on his way to figures of 2/25 from seven overs. Despite his efforts, the Pretoria school completed a comfortable run chase in only 29 overs.

    Summarised scorecard

King Edward VII School 144/10 (Tiago Dias 54, Troy Gordon 31, Abdullah Mohammed 20; Rivan Booysen 5/17, Jean Cloete 2/19); Waterkloof 145/4 (Rico van der Walt 55, Wian du Plessis 43*, AJ de Villiers 22; Connor Kuijers 2/25). Waterkloof won by six wickets.

  • Jansen van Rensburg’s 141 highlights Dokkies’ big Finsbury win

Jansen van Rensburg’s 141 highlights Dokkies’ big Finsbury win

Heinrich Jansen van Rensburg and Hoërskool Dr Malan could not have asked for a better start to their campaign in the D Section of the annual Finsbury League. They produced a dominant display to overwhelm Hoër Tegniese Skool (HTS) Middelburg by a staggering 235 runs on Saturday.

Jansen van Rensburg was the cornerstone of the Meyerton school’s away victory, which was set up by their daunting total of 333/9 from their 50 overs when batting first.

Jansen van Rensburg, Dokkies‘ talisman, led the way. He and opening batsman Ruben Muller rebuilt their team’s innings after an early wobble left them on 23/2.

For the next 30 overs, the home side had little joy as a commanding 181-run partnership unfolded. Muller played superbly for his 80, yet his fine innings was eclipsed by the carnage wrought by Jansen van Rensburg at the other end. He blasted a breathtaking 141 from just 80 balls, striking 18 fours and five sixes, which brought him a remarkable 102 runs from boundaries.

Their stand was eventually broken by the perseverance of Henco Brits, who was comfortably the pick of the Middelburg bowlers. He removed both Muller and Jansen van Rensburg on his way to figures of 3/41 from his 10 overs.

As so often is the case in cricket, when it is your day, everything seems to fall into place, and Jansen van Rensburg continued to shine when he took the ball. He spearheaded Dr Malan’s defence of their massive total, capturing 3/23, while Jayden Le Roux was hugely impressive, too, returning 3/16 from his five overs.

Ruben Jooste was the only Middelburg batsman to offer meaningful resistance, top-scoring with 29, but the hosts were dismissed for just 98, succumbing to Dokkies’ relentless onslaught.

In Klerksdorp, Hoërskool Ben Vorster turned what was meant to be a home fixture into an away triumph, overcoming Hoërskool Wesvalia by 27 runs.

Nearly 500 mm of rain in Tzaneen over the past fortnight forced the Black Caps to relocate their clash with Wessies in pursuit of valuable early log points. Administrative matters aside, Dirk Nortman ensured the journey was worthwhile.

Remarkably, Nortman, who is in Grade 10, delivered a mature all-round performance of the kind that one hopes to see from a seasoned first XI cricketer.

He top-scored with 53 and was well supported by Talent Ndlovu (38), as the Black Caps posted 196, giving them a solid total to defend. Nortman then led the bowling attack, knocking over 3/20. He was ably backed up by Ndlovu (2/38) and Mphotseng Mashalane (2/23), both of whom are also among the younger members of the side.

Despite the defeat, it was a bittersweet outing for the Wessies’ opening bowler, Michael Kinnear. No bowler across the top four sections of the league enjoyed a more productive weekend.

He delivered a superb spell on home soil, sending down 8.2 overs, three of them maidens, and conceded just 26 runs while claiming an outstanding six-wicket haul. Unfortunately for the hosts, even that exceptional effort was not enough to halt the visitors’ march to victory.

    Summarised scorecards

Dr Malan 333/9 (Heinrich Jansen van Rensburg 141, Ruben Muller 80, Divan van der Berg 24*; Henco Britz 3/41, Ruben Jooste 2/26); HTS Middelburg 98/10 (Ruben Jooste 29; Jayden Le Roux 3/16, Heinrich Jansen van Rensburg 3/23). Dr Malan won by 235 runs.

Ben Vorster 196/10 (Dirk Nortman 53, Talent Ndlovu 38, Kulani Mnisi 28, Christiaan Duvenhage 21; Michael Kinnear 6/26, Jandré Greyling 2/26); Wesvalia 169/10 (Dundré Hales 36*, Jandré Greyling 30, Jordan Lategan 24; Dirk Nortman 3/20, Mphotseng Mashalane 2/23, Talent Ndlovu 2/38). Ben Vorster won by 27 runs.

Newcomers to the Finsbury League B Section, Midstream College, and regulars, Hoërskool Montana, made emphatic statements in their opening fixtures, with both recording impressive victories over traditionally strong sides from the Noordvaal region on Saturday.

The Midrand-based Midstream College earned promotion to the B Section after defeating Hoërskool Centurion in the promotion-relegation play-off at the start of the 2025/26 season, and they wasted little time in proving they belong at the higher level.

Opening batsman Keegan Gibson led the way in a commanding 101-run home victory over Hoërskool Marais Viljoen, contributing a superbly composed 108. His knock featured only three fours and two sixes, which underlined his control and ability to rotate the strike without undue risk.

Gibson was well supported by 44 from the experienced Dian de Villiers, while a brisk 33 from Ryan Strauss helped to boost the hosts to 233 all out from 48 overs. Rieshaeel Hashim was the visitors’ standout bowler, claiming 3/30 from seven overs.

In the batting-friendly Highveld conditions, a target of 234 is often considered attainable, but a disciplined and collective bowling effort from Midstream proved to be too much for the visitors.

Tehan Maré led the attack with 3/15, while Barto Oosthuizen (2/14), Dian de Villiers (2/26) and Rikus Cilliers (2/31) each claimed two wickets. Riyaan Marques top-scored with 35, but Marais Viljoen never threatened the Midstream College total and was bowled out for 134 in the 36th over.

In Pretoria, a similar story unfolded as Hoërskool Montana overcame Hoërskool Nelspruit. The Mbombela-based side has made the move down to the B Section after being relegated from the A Section by Hoërskool Kempton Park.

Opening batsman Marko Rudolph anchored the Monties‘ innings with a patient 74 from 106 deliveries, which included seven fours and a six. Captain Juan Theunissen added 46, while late contributions of an unbeaten 24 each from Reinhardt Swart and Du Preez Prinsloo lifted the hosts to 218/7 from their 50 overs.

The match was then shaped by an outstanding spell from Johvanne Conradie, whose 4/18 dismantled the Nellies‘ middle order. His haul included the key wicket of Jean Maritz, who top-scored with a determined 48. Gherdu van Eeden supported Maritz with 35, and the pair shared a 94-run partnership that briefly revived their run chase.

Once that stand was broken, however, the innings unravelled, and Nelspruit was bowled out for 146, leaving Hoërskool Montana with a convincing 72-run victory.

    Summarised scorecards

The opening weekend of the annual Finsbury League C Section produced a run-fest across Saturday’s three fixtures.

It was the only section to complete a full round of matches, as the ongoing Switch Schools SA20 regional playoffs and inclement weather in parts of the Noordvaal region disrupted proceedings elsewhere.

Hoërskool Dinamika delivered the most emphatic batting performance, piling up a mammoth 375 all out in a commanding 77-run victory over Hoërskool Pietersburg, in Alberton.

The home side’s fiery innings, which lasted just 46.4 overs, featured two half-centuries, with Jayden Smith the standout performer. Smith smashed a blistering 95 from only 57 deliveries. Despite batting at number nine, he came up one big shot short of a century.

Kyle du Plooy laid the platform for the late onslaught with a fluent 67 from 57 balls, while Pietersburg’s generosity in the extras column added 56 runs to Dinamika’s daunting total.

Alex Thomson (4/68) was a bright spot for the visitors, producing a spirited spell, while the experienced AJ Galloway offered valuable support with three wickets of his own.

In reply, Pieties briefly threatened to make a contest of it, with Willem Viljoen in fine touch. He struck a rapid 84 at a strike rate of 118, while Hanru Marais contributed an enterprising 46 from just 26 balls. However, once both were removed, courtesy of Jarred Cliffe (2/46) and Jesse Simpson (2/24), the innings lost momentum, and the visitors were eventually all out for 280.

In Centurion, the visitors, Hoërskool Middelburg, inspired by a devastating innings from Gavin Genis, secured a comprehensive 125-run victory over Hoërskool Centurion

The Middiescaptain raced to 82 from just 40 balls, clearing the ropes nine times and finding the boundary on four further occasions. Eduan Strydom added a solid 51, while PJ van der Merwe agonisingly missed out on a half-century, falling for 49, as Middelburg was bowled out for 238.

Morné Prinsloo (2/29) and Morné Venter (2/39) were the pick of the Woeries‘ bowlers and later led the resistance with the bat, scoring 39 and 25 respectively.

The remainder of the line-up, however, struggled against the penetrative Middelburg attack, spearheaded by Nijan Swart. The former Hoërskool Secunda bowler was outstanding, ripping through the top order and claiming 3/5, which played a decisive role in Centurion mustering only 113 all out.

In the third fixture, Hoërskool Zwartkop claimed a convincing 93-run win over Hoërskool Lichtenburg in Centurion, with three of their batsmen registering half-centuries.

Wynand Frylink and William Skinner were the chief contributors, each scoring 64, while WJ Easterhuizen added a brisk 62 as the Zwarries posted an imposing 298 all out.

Lichtenburg’s Eduan van den Berg fought valiantly, first with the ball, returning figures of 3/40, and then with the bat, compiling a well-made 57. Despite his efforts, the Liggies were bowled out for 205 in reply, falling well short of their target.
