SpringbokSpringbok coach Allister Coetzee named six uncapped players in his squad for the test series against France in June. Of the six players it is only Raymond Rhule who could call himself a Springbok, as he toured with the Boks before the rule of giving players the Springbok numbers only after playing a test match was introduced before the outgoing tour of 2013.

In total seven of the 33 players in the squad didn’t take part at the prestigious Craven Week during their school careers.

Warren Whiteley will become the 58th Springbok captain in the series against the French. Whiteley is a product of Glenwood High School in Durban. He was coached at school by none other than current Paarl Boys’ High’s Sean Erasmus. Boishaai is unbeaten in South Africa in their last 46 matches.

Andries “Boeboes” Coetzee wil make his test debut in the first test at Loftus Versfeld. He is a product of HTS Middelburg. Coetzee also represented the Pumas at the Craven Week in 2008.

Scrumhalf Ross Cronje will also make his test debut after almost switching alliances to play for Zimbabwe’s national team earlier in his career. Cronje is a product of Michaelhouse, a school that had to wait untill Pat Lambie to produce their first Springbok. Since then Pat Cilliers and Ruan Combrinck also made their Springbok debuts. Cronje will thus be their fourth Springbok.

Courtnal Skosan is a former pupil of Brackenfell and will also make his test debut against France at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. If Dillyn Leyds gets his opportunity he will become Bishops’ newest Springbok since Francois Louw made his test debut.

If Sharks’ centre Lukhanyo Am takes the field in the series he will become his school’s first Springbok. Am matriculated from De Vos Malan in King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape. He also didn’t take part in the Coca-Cola Craven Week. Am has been replaced in the group by Lionel Mapoe (Fichardtpark) due to injury.

Ruan Dreyer (Monument) and Lizo Gqoboka (Nabankulu) is the other two newbies in the Bok squad.
