Geldenhuys sal voortaan die sweep by Grey-kollege se trots klap

  • BDCE Campus Cup to resume this week with a forced format change

BDCE Campus Cup to resume this week with a forced format change

BDCECampusCupLogoFacebook threw a major curveball to our virtual schools’ rugby competition, the BDCE Campus Cup, by removing the option for Facebook Pages to create polls. The feature that our competition was run on was therefore removed from pages – we could still create polls on Facebook Groups but they’re inner workings and settings are a bit different.

We, therefore, took a bye week last week to investigate our options to continue the competition without jeopardizing the integrity of the BDCE Campus Cup. The best and most fair solution we came up with was, is to run the competition via Instagram and Facebook Stories which still has a voting option.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this disruption to our competition. We have not foreseen that Facebook would remove the polling feature as abruptly as they did. None of these changes were communicated to us beforehand. The competition was started to give a bit back during these difficult times as well as keeping some interest in the schoolboy game going,” said Hannes Nienaber, owner of School of Rugby.

School of Rugby will communicate more information on the new format to be used for the remainder of the competition by Tuesday, 25 August 2020. We do plan to move the other two competitions, Campus Cup Jr. and the Netball Lockdown Challenge, yet to kick-off to our app. If you have any concerns or suggestions please send us an e-mail to hannes@rugby.supersportschools.com.

The first champion of the BDCE Campus Cup will receive a lucrative prize in R15 000 in cash and also a USN hamper worth R8 000. The losing finalists will also receive a cash prize of R10 000, while there is also something in it for the smaller schools that take part in the competition. The so-called second-tier school that progresses the furthest in the competition will also win R5 000 in cash.

Besides our title sponsors BDCE and DigiCampus – we also welcomed StrapFIT on board as a sponsor adding another R6 000 worth of strapping to the prizes. This week we also welcome Canterbury SA to the sponsors. Canterbury decided that they will provide the champions of the BDCE Campus Cup with a set of jerseys.

Our title sponsor, BDCE (Business Development Centre of Excellence), provides SETA Accredited Learnerships, Accredited Training, Skills Development, Non-Accredited Training, and Short Courses for businesses. Please have a look at what they offer by clicking on their banner or highlighted name in the paragraph.

  • Another three big names knocked out of the BDCE Campus Cup

Another three big names knocked out of the BDCE Campus Cup

BDCECampusCupLogoAnother round of the BDCE Campus Cup and yet another couple of traditional rugby schools getting knocked out.  Last week during Round 4 of the virtual schools’ rugby championship Grey College, Paarl Gimnasium, and Monument were knocked out of the competition.

Piet Potgieter of Mokopane defeated Grey College of Bloemfontein by the narrowest of margins. A total of 6 700 people voted in the match with 31 279 people that watched the match. The team from Mokopane will face Eldoraigne in the fourth round.

Ellisras is the giant-slayers as they toppled the other Goliath from Paarl, Paarl Gimnasium. Ellisras also knocked out Paarl Boys’ High during the first round of the competition. Ellisras won Paarl Gim by 50.4 to 49.6 percent in a match that saw just over 5 800 votes cast.

Monument of Krugersdorp also got knocked out as Nico Malan from Humansdorp are picking up steam. The team from the Eastern Cape will face Noord-Kaap of Kimberley in their next match-up.

There were quite a lot of matches that went to the wire with less than 0.1 percent between the sides. We urge all competing teams to play the game fair – as we have been made aware of fake accounts being made and used to vote. We will monitor the votes that come in and if we pick-up on any irregularities a school could be disqualified.

Heidelberg Volkskool also soldiered on as they edged past HTS Middelburg. It seems that their bomb squad is strong. Waterkloof also took a humdinger by only 18 votes against Wonderboom with only minutes left on Saturday.

The biggest victory during Round 4 was recorded by Helpmekaar as they defeated AHS Kroonstad by 59-41.

The first champion of the BDCE Campus Cup will receive a lucrative prize in R15 000 in cash and also a USN hamper worth R8 000. The losing finalists will also receive a cash prize of R10 000, while there is also something in it for the smaller schools that take part in the competition.

  • Ten Small Dogs with a Big Bite made it into Round 3 of BDCE Campus Cup

Ten Small Dogs with a Big Bite made it into Round 3 of BDCE Campus Cup

BDCECampusCupLogoIt getting tougher each week in the BDCE Campus Cup as we move closer to the pinnacle of South Africa’s first virtual schools’ rugby championship. There are only 64 schools left in the competition as we move into the fourth week and Round 3 of the tournament.

The second round of the competition saw an unbelievable 221 786 votes being cast in the 64 virtual match-ups that took place. A grand total of 1 256 072 people viewed the 64 matches. That means that an amazing 488 945 votes have been cast over the first three weeks om the competition with a total of just over 3.2 million people that viewed these “matches”.

The match that attracted the most interest was the one between Northern Natal “minnows” – Pionier of Vryheid and Ferrum of Newcastle. The match was even featured in the Newcastle Advertiser. A total of 39 904 people flooded through the gates (saw the poll/match) with more than 6 000 casting their votes.

Pionier took it by gathering 51% of the votes behind them, but it was a close encounter until the final whistle went.

Another big clash was the one between Hoërskool Punt of Mossel Bay and Hoërskool Diamantveld of Kimberley. The former edging out Diamonds by 51/49 percent. A total of 36 415 people watched this match with 5 600 casting their votes.

A total of ten of the smaller school (according to our rankings) – the bottom 128 of our draw made it to Round 3 of the competition. The ten schools Hoërskool Punt, President Steyn, Uitenhage High School, Piet Potgieter, Hoërskool Oudtshoorn, De Aar, Hoërskool Linden, Wolmaransstad, Fochville, and Pretoria-Noord are beside the big prize also still in the running for that R 5000 for progressing the furthest in the competition.

If two or more of the smaller schools get knocked out at the same stage their performances (votes, reach) of the previous rounds will count towards who walks away with the cash prize.

Fochville probably caused the biggest upset in Round 2 by defeating Kempton Park. President Steyn from Bainsvlei just outside Bloemfontein surprised King Edward VII as the trend continues of the traditional English schools not caring to vote. Nico Malan of Humansdorp had another nailbiter and it won’t get easier for them as they will face Monument of Krugersdorp in Round 3.

Monnas is one of the big dogs left in the competition. Most of the big traditional rugby schools have idled into the third round thus far. It is expected that these schools will have to start calling on the backing of their old-boys if they are to be title contenders. Grey College, Paarl Gimnasium, Waterkloof, Affies, Helpmekaar, Menlopark, Garsfontein, Maritzburg College, and Paul Roos Gimnasium are still in the running.

The first champion of the BDCE Campus Cup will receive a lucrative prize in R15 000 in cash and also a USN hamper worth R8 000. The losing finalists will also receive a cash prize of R10 000, while there is also something in it for the smaller schools that take part in the competition.

School of Rugby se Beste Skole XV vanuit die “Klein Skole” (2007-2019)

So hier gaan ons – hier is School of Rugby se beste span vanuit die kleiner skole (2007-2019):

    15. Gouws Prinsloo (Marlow Landbou)

Ongelukkiges: Franco Nel (President Steyn), Raymond Rhule (Louis Botha), Ruan “Toupie” Venter (Brandfort).

    14. Selvyn Davids (Nico Malan)

    Ongelukkiges: Sebastiaan Jobb (Duineveld).

    10. Michael Marx (Brandfort)

Ongelukkiges: Nakkie Naudé (Zastron), Bokang Mosena (St Andrews), Duan Pretorius (Hennenman), Peet “Tokkie” Holtzhausen (Jim Fouché).

Ongelukkiges: FJ Marx (Brandfort), Marco Pretorius (Hennenman), Sherwin Cupido (Louis Botha).

    Ongelukkiges: Arno Visagie (Hennenman).

Ongelukkiges: Jamie Zwiegelaar (Landboudal), Henry de Wet (President Steyn).

    6. Gift Dlamini (Hentie Cilliers)

    Ongelukkiges: Hannes “Kalahari” Maritz (Landboudal).

Ongelukkiges: Leon du Raan (Landboudal), Milo Moholo (Louis Botha).

    4. Eben Etzebeth (Tygerberg)

Etzebeth het sedertdien as speler wasdom bereik.

    Ongelukkiges: Andrew Bester (Brandfort).

    Ongelukkiges: Wilco Louw (HTS Drostdy).

    2. Mokoa Bolofo (Louis Botha)

Bollies rig deesdae Louis Botha se eerstespan af.

Ongelukkiges: Reinhardt Snyman (Hentie Cilliers), Rikus Alkema (Bothaville).

    1. Boan Venter (De Aar)

PLAASVERVANGERS: 16 Wayne Slabbert (Zastron), 17 Sipho Nzotho (Hoërskool Middelburg), 18 Pieter-Steph du Toit (Swartland), 19 Cloete Wessels (AHS Kroonstad), 20 Gerrie Muller (Wilgerivier), 21 Rudy Paige (Bastion), 22 Hoffman Maritz (Voortrekker), 23 Ruvo du Preez (Bekker).
