Nero was sy span se voorste driedrukker by daardie toernooi.

Zethembiso reflects on the season thus far and he speaks highly about his passion for football on and off the field. He is among the ten players selected during the FC Bayern Youth Cup in Northwood that will be travelling to Germany in 2024.
During an interview with Zethembiso, he says he would like to score more goals, and end up a top scorer this season in school’s football. Furthermore, he would like to achieve more individuals’ goals and awards together with the team of Northwood High School.
Zethembiso says being a student and a player comes up with its own challenges and difficulties. “Sometimes you get to travel long distances and you come up with fatigue, and at that you still have an assignment to complete, after all school work comes first”, he said.
One of the challenges that he has had to face, is finding himself as a young player and he believes that this is something most young players must face in their daily lives. Another thing that he must face is negative comments being said behind your back.
However, Zethembiso says the best thing he could do in those circumstances is take those comments, work hard and use them as fuel in order to get stronger as a young player and footballer. “Also, I have to learn that as a player you are not just playing for yourself, but you are playing for a team that has built a winning structure”, he said.
“The team of Northwood is blessed with a highly working team, we have the best technical team out there, I believe so. Our coaches have included our directors who know the players very well on a personal level. They know how to position each player to the best of their abilities” Zethembiso said.
Lesson learnt as a young footballer from Zethembiso, “Consistency is key, without consistency, hard work and determination you are bound to get nowhere in life, those few words have become part of my daily life including prayer”, he said.
Nicknamed as Zet, Kyle Walker or Cristiano Ronaldo, his favourite is Cristiano Ronaldo. Playing left winger, Zet says he always identified with Ronaldo, and he is the one that got him to play football.
Zethembiso expressed how proud he is and still shocked that he was selected amongst the ten players to compete in the international FC Bayern Youth Cup. “I was shocked to hear my name being called, like is this really happening, but at the same time, I thank God because I know without Him none of this is possible”, Zethembiso said.
Moving forward, he spoke about the importance of keeping his head high for the remainder of the season and that he stays fit and continues to score goals.
In closing, Zethembiso said his dreams of becoming a professional footballer or a sports scientist. He says he finds these professions aligning with each other, and even if he doesn’t become a professional footballer, he will still be in the profession of football.

The second day of the St David’s Fasken Festival got underway with several teams eyeing a win, rather than playing cautiously for a draw.
Two out of the four matches played ended with a result, while the rest of the matches all played out to draws, Paul Roos and St John’s College walked away with victories.
Paul Roos Gimnasium from Stellenbosch cruised to a 9 wicket victory over local side Hoërskool Noordheuwel as the side struggled to put themselves in a competitive position.
The batsmen from Krugersdorp will want to aim to spend some more time at the crease in their next fixture.
Callum Appollis was pick of the bowlers from the Cape, taking 8 wickets across both innings and was well aided by Liam Basson in the second innings who ended with figures 4/35.
St John’s College’s Alec Loveland, partnered with Cole Francis, in the first innings and Christopher Ford in the second innings, bowling in tandem and picking up crucial wickets to apply pressure on St Andrew’s College. The right arm medium pacer Loveland ended with match figures of 7/145, resulting in a 58 run win for St John’s.
The second day saw two centurions in the same match. The honours going to St Stithians opener Pranav Raichetti who managed to carry his bat over night, and ended on 110 from 147 balls, which he excellently followed up with 60 from 73 balls in the second innings. . Waterkloof’s Alexander Volschenk scored a patient 112 from 140 balls. The wicket was fairly flat which resulted in the match panning out to a stalemate.
Maritzburg openers Caleb Thomas and Liam Armstrong were not quite finished with the hosts piling on an opening stand of 122 from 142 balls, with each scoring 76 from 106 balls and 60 from 63 balls. Ryan Mckean batted quickly scoring a rapid 78 from 73 balls, to take the match further away from St Davids.
In response St David’s opener Reece Reddy scored from 85 from 88 balls, and was well supported by skipper Matthew West who scored a patient 68 from 99 balls, ensuring that the side were not bowled out in the chase.
Callum Ritchie of King Edward VII put in a good all-round performance bagging himself figures of 5/64 in the Lions Invitational XI second innings, before scoring 70 from 76 balls at a strike-rate of 92.11. KES ended up securing a draw in the process.
Jeppe made it difficult for Clifton College after ensuring that they had put a substantial lead on the board after batting well in the second innings. Clifton’s Shahzaad Perumal took 5/94 making him the only bowler on day two with a five-wicket haul. Jeppe tried hard to push for a win, but were unable to bowl out the opposition, with Sipho Potsane bowling well for his 3/38.
Although it wasn’t the highest score from any of the matches a gutsyinnings of 47* off 141 balls from Clifton’s opener Muhammed Malek, allowed him to soak up the pressure. This resulted in his side fighting for a draw.
The teams will be back tomorrow with not much rest inbetween the games. This is what makes the festival so exciting is that players will need to bring their A-games as their levels of fitness and mental strength will be tested over the next two days in the last round of fixtures.

Hoërskool Pietersburg managed to come out on top against Merensky in the Limpopo Super League on home soil.
The team from Polokwane managed to beat the defending champions by 66 runs in their round robin clash.
The home side opted to bat first and made use of batting friendly conditions.
After sustaining some early pressure from the Merensky attack, the Pietie batters quickly hit their stride and started cashing in.
Their onslaught was led by Nicholaas Oerlemans. Oerlemans notched up an impressive century at less than a run a ball before he was sent back to the pavilion by Kyle Crous, who claimed figures of 3 for 28 with a solid outing with the ball, accumulating 116 of only 102 deliveries.
His partner in crime, Hanno van Zyl, looked dangerous with a quick-fire cameo of 33 of 29 balls before he was trapped LBW by Luka Heinlein (2/60). The pair were well supported by Zandre van Rooyen (28, 48b) and Drian Hartslief (23, 41b) which helped the Pieties to a very defendable first innings total of 245 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
Merensky’s innings got of to a rocky start as the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Michael Nel was the main thorn in the side of the visitors as he managed to claim three scalps for 39 runs.
For the visitors it was Alfred Nel who managed to steady a sinking ship. Nel played a matured innings of 36 from 46 deliveries before he was outfoxed by Nel.
He was well supported by the lower order in the form of Rinaldo Bornman (21, 20b) and wicketkeeper Waldo Pretorius (20, 39b), but it deemed not to be enough as the Plasies were bundled out for only 179 handing Pietersburg a convincing victory of 66 runs.
Ben Vorster managed to get back to winning ways after their defeat against Merensky beating Phalaborwa Hub by a thumping 145 runs.
The team from Tzaneen opted to make use of their home ground advantage and decided to bat first. Tristan Buglass laid down the law with his second half century in as many weeks scoring 66 of only 44 balls before he had to depart. The paceman, Nsuku Mathye, showed his abilities with the willow and played a good supporting role making 26 of 24 balls.
Tebogo Molapo deemed to be the shining light for Phalaborwa as the seam bowler claimed impressive figures of 2 for 17 in six overs.
Mathye used the momentum gained from his batting performance and came out firing with the ball.
The quick from Ben Vorster rattled a few cages with his intimidating pace to walk away with figures in a spell of 3 for 13, which included 22 dot balls in his five overs. For Phalaborwa it was once again Molapo, who showed character with a fighting knock of 15 from 20 balls, but it was short lived as the visitors were all out for a meagre 56.
Summarised Scorecards:
Pietersburg 245/9 (Nicholaas Oerlemans 116, Hanno van Zyl 33, Zandre van Rooyen 28, Drian Hartslief 23; Kyle Crous 3/28, Luka Heinlein 2/60) Merensky 179/10 (Alfred Nel 36, Rinaldo Bornman 21, Waldo Pretorius 20; Michael Nel 3/39, Zandre van Rooyen 2/16) Hoërskool Pietersburg won by 66 runs.

Hoërskool Ellisras made history by scoring a mammoth total of 535, the highest ever in the Limpopo 50-over league.
The team from Limpopo came up against Hoërskool Warmbad in their round-robin clash of the Limpopo League.
Warmbad won the toss and chose to bowl first. A decision that soon proved to be the wrong one.
From the get-go, it was clear that there would be a massive score on the cards as the Ellisras batsman went ballistic.
The batters from Ellisras managed to notch up three centuries in a blink of an eye. Opening batsman, Alec Bester, laid the platform with a wonderful 104 of only 81 balls before he was sent back to the pavilion.
Mohau Tswidi top scored with a score of 117 of 108 deliveries, an innings which included 12 fours. However, it was Gerdro Grobler who was at the forefront of the onslaught accumulating 113 in no time.
Grobler made his 113 of only 67 balls at an impressive strike rate of 168. His innings included 17 fours and three sixes as he kept pilling on the runs to guide his team to their massive first innings total.
In a match that seemed to have everything it was Warmbads’ Nehan Volschenk who bagged a five-wicket haul amits the chaos walking away with figures of 5/103 in nine overs.
Ellisras kept pilling on the pressure with the ball as they continued to bulldoze the side from Warmbad.
It was Volschenk once again who put up a valiant effort with the willow this time as the opening batsman made a hard-fought 31 off 37 balls before he got his stumps knocked over. He was supported by Rickus Kern who counter-attacked with a quick-fire 27 of 23 balls before he too lost his wicket.
For the team from Ellisras, it was Dirk Uys (3/5) and Penny Zanrich (3/13) who proved to be too good for the batters from Warmbad, with the pair claiming six wickets between them for only 18 runs. The collapse added further insult to injury as Warmbad only managed to make 114 before being bundled out, handing Ellisras a massive victory of 421 runs.

The opening day of the annual Fasken St David’s Time Cricket Festival saw three centuries scored across the six matches, along with 15 half centuries.
Two of those centuries belonged to Maritzburg Colleges’ openers Liam Armstrong (113 runs from 157 balls) and Caleb Thomas (166 runs from 155 balls).
The two shared in an impressive opening stand of 250 runs from 286 balls, dominating the St David’s bowlers and putting their side in a strong position by assisting in putting on 359 after their first innings of 60 overs, opting not to declare.
The third century was scored by Waterkloof’s number four Beukes Van Den Berg, who scored 127 runs from 126 balls which included 13 fours and four sixes.
Cormey Van Der Walt from Paul Roos fell short of making it four tons of the day by making a well-played 95.
On a bowling front the day saw only one fiver which belonged to St Andrew’s Dakalo Leketa who picked up figures 5/80 from 23 overs, the right-arm medium pacer bowled tight lines to restrict the St John’s College batsmen. He was supported by FG Botha who bowled well for his 4/10 from 3.1 overs.
King Edward VII’s opening bowler Fayaaz Vawda picked up a crucial 4/34 from his 9 overs dismissing the Lions Invitational XI top order in quick succession leaving the side rattled at 3/10 in 7 overs.
What stood out during the first day were the innovative and attacking fields set by the captains, with obvious plans getting thought out, as teams tried to outwit each other. Secondly were the rates at which batsmen were scoring their runs, aggressive yet selective in balls attacked.
The first day kicked off with a special opening breakfast with teams, coaches, umpires, sponsors and honoured guests in attendance.
St David’s skipper Matthew West, welcomed the opposition and traveling teams, he pointed out the need for players to remain respectful of each other during the course of the week and to play within the spirit of the game.
Dave Nosworthy, the Director of Cricket at St Davids and the brains behind the Fasken Festival, highlighted the need for a tournament of this nature as it provides a good foundation for players to spend crucial time out in the middle gaining valuable lessons.
Former New Zealand Test player and Affies old boy, Kruger Van Wyk addressed the boys on the importance of working hard both on and off the field, sharing some of his personal experiences as a player and now coach.
The takeaway from his address was the value of education and the role it plays in the development of the young players.
Breakfast was wrapped up with a speech by St David’s Headmaster Mike Thiel who highlighted the importance of time, referring back to the format of the Fasken Festival.
His message to the players was that they should value their time and to enjoy the moments shared with their teammates out in the field.
The morning was the perfect start to a festival of cricket with players getting welcomed and players getting introduced to the Purple Cap award, which sees one player from each team getting awarded the purple cap after the day’s play based on their opposition’s selection.
With the pre-festival formalities out of the way, the boys went on their way with the excitement of facing four long hard days of cricket; all with the jubilance only found amongst young men ready to make unforgettable memories out on the playing field.
Day 2 is set for an exciting day with teams looking to push for victories.

Sentraal, Fichardtpark, Jim Fouché, HTS Louis Botha, Duineveld, Bultfontein, Aliwal Noord, Hangklip, Sand du Plessis, Zastron, Heatherdale, Kimberley Boys’ High, Hodisa, Burgersdorp, Duineveld II, Kimberley Boys’ High II.

Twelve of the most renowned rugby-playing schools in the country will compete over 34 games to see who gets the bragging rights (and the R100 000 grand prize) in the quicker format of the game after the conclusion of the regular winter sports season.
The Potchefstroom University has spared no expense in making sure that this is a highly entertaining event, with live music to keep the festive atmosphere going as they celebrate the beginning of a brand new platform for schools to compete in sevens rugby.
This tournament will also be an exciting glimpse into some of the talent that will be emerging in the first teams next season.
The teams are divided into four pools of three, and after the first three rounds have been played, knockout rounds will commence to determine the final ranking.
With Grey College from Bloemfontein adding another perfect season this year, all eyes will be on their u17s competing at this tournament as they kick things off in the first game against Waterkloof.
The final pool stage matchup between Outeniqua and Garsfontein also promises to be a highlight.
The Kwaggas u16 team beat Garsfontein 17-10 in the 15-man game earlier in the year at the ABSA Wildeklawer festival, but the Garsie Bears won the first team meeting by 19-8, so the u17’s will have a difference to settle in that game.
Outeniqua plays with a divided squad, having entrusted their second team with defending their honour as the hosts at their own sevens festival in George over the weekend.
This promises to be an action-packed day, showcasing some of the most gifted young natural athletes in the best rugby structures in the country competing for the spoils in Potchefstroom to become the first champions in what promises to grow to be an extremely one of the most prestigious sevens tournaments in the country.
